Mist in the Gorge

[Cool-headed, perceptive criminal profiler × Dashing, roguish, possessive corporate kingpin]

Jiang Zhen first met Gu Jingxun in a prison in El Salvador. She was a profiler sent by China’s public security authorities to interview him, and he was the suspect who had brutally murdered his younger sister.

The visiting room, enclosed by mud walls and iron-barred windows, was dim and cramped. Gu Jingxun wore a loose, striped prison uniform, his whole being radiating a cold, broken aura.

Although the news media had described him as utterly vicious, Jiang Zhen was still dazzled by his alluring, wild good looks.

During the interview, she watched every tiny change in his expression and noted every casual gesture, filling several pages with her observations.

After the interview, Gu Jingxun lounged back in his chair, a hint of insolence in his eyes. “Do you think I’m the culprit?”

Her pen tapped the paper again and again. Jiang Zhen replied without a hint of emotion, “If everything you told me today was true, and every expression came from the heart, then I don’t think you are.”

The rapid expansion of Chuangsheng Group had left it short on operating capital, and it urgently needed funding. Just as Jiang Zhen’s parents were at their wit’s end, Hengzhou Group agreed to provide the money, on the condition of a business marriage.

As the group’s sole heir, Jiang Zhen had no choice.

At the blind date

They met again six months later. Gu Jingxun seemed almost unchanged, still as laid-back as ever. “You don’t seem surprised to see me.”

Jiang Zhen’s face was as still as a placid lake. Her voice was cool. “There wasn’t enough evidence. With the Gu family’s influence and legal team, your release was only a matter of time.”

“An exchange of equal value. I’ll provide Chuangsheng with working capital, and you’ll find the person who killed my sister.”

“Why me?”

Gu Jingxun’s voice was seductive. “Because I believe you can play the role of a devil’s wife.”
