Opening a Superpower Blind Box with My Deskmate Every Day

My deskmate has superpowers. We're both famous academic failures at A High School. I'm a cold, unmotivated underachiever, while he's a loud, chatty one.

But my deskmate's superpower is extremely unstable. It changes every day, and every morning I have to open a mystery box with him and serve as his test subject.

"Deskmate, deskmate, my superpower today is breathing fire!"

"Not bad." I take out my cold lunchbox. "Warm it up for your good buddy."

Then he lets out a big roar and misses, burning my freshly permed hair black.

The next day, with a new bump on his head from my fist, he excitedly tells me:

"Deskmate, deskmate, my superpower today is X-ray vision!"

"Not bad." I point to the tall figure of the top student in front of us. "During study hall, take a good look at his answers and tell me what they are."

Then he watches and takes notes, laboriously copying out a whole page in his English workbook and handing it to me. It isn't until the teacher comes to check that we realize the top student was doing chemistry.

"Deskmate, deskmate, my superpower today lets me make people tell the truth!"

"Not bad." I praise him out of habit, then think for ages and can't figure out what's so good about it.

He suddenly asks, "I've actually had a crush on you for ages. What about you?"

Without thinking, I slap him.

He clutches his face and pouts, grumbling, "Wasn't it supposed to make people tell the truth? Why did this happen...?"

Only at the end of the day does he realize his power is to force himself to tell the truth.

Now my deskmate has been lying at home pretending to be sick for two days, embarrassed and unable to face anyone. I'm wondering whether I should drag him back to school. The daily mystery-box fun has been kind of boring without him.

Please help me figure this out. I'm online and waiting, and it's pretty urgent.
