Eternal Peace

Liang Funing was the one who survived a choice between two people.

The Crown Prince, Xu Huaiting, chose her without hesitation over her half-sister, Liang Wenrou.

But Liang Wenrou cut the rope and fell off the cliff. When they went looking for her, all they found was a body mauled beyond recognition by wild beasts.

At the time, Xu Huaiting seemed utterly unmoved by what had happened.

So Liang Funing thought nothing more of it.

Later, Xu Huaiting sought permission to marry her, and Liang Funing duly married into the Eastern Palace.

For the two years after their wedding, Xu Huaiting and Liang Funing lived together in harmony. She thought her whole life would pass in such peace.

Until the day a graceful woman appeared in the emperor's palanquin. A cold wind stirred the strings of her beaded curtain, revealing her face to everyone present. It was Liang Wenrou, the woman who had supposedly died in the jaws of a beast.

At the banquet that day, Xu Huaiting, who had always been so restrained and proper, got drunk for the first time, like a trapped beast.

Only then did Liang Funing realize how Xu Huaiting felt about Liang Wenrou. He had saved Liang Funing that day only because he had quarreled with Liang Wenrou.

From then on, Xu Huaiting regretted it every day, and his loathing for Liang Funing only grew.

The day the truth came out, he broke Liang Funing's legs and forced her to kneel before Liang Wenrou. In a cold voice, he said, "If not for Wenrou, you'd have lost your life two years ago. Making you kneel now is getting off lightly!"

But he didn't know that everything two years ago had been Liang Wenrou's scheme all along.
