[Journey to the West] Tang Sanzang Is an Ordinary Person

Content warning: My take on Journey to the West, with extreme OOC!!!

How would an ordinary person react to a Journey to the West scenario from the start?

· Good at taking advice (listens to reason):

The Monkey: "Master, how could there be such a wealthy household in these desolate mountains? It must be the work of demons!" Sincere.jpg

Jiang Liuer: "Wukong, you're right. Let's go, we'll take another route."

· Fiery Golden Eyes (spotting fakes):

Demons disguised as old people, children, or women: "Elder, please save us!"

Jiang Liuer looks at the demons, who are tied up, pinned beneath a mountain, or hanging from a tree, all clean and plump. Then he looks at himself, no longer fair-skinned, with his clothes all rumpled.

Jiang Liuer: "Wukong..." Get rid of these guys who think I'm an idiot!

The Monkey: "Demons, don't run! Have a taste of Old Sun's cudgel!" Raising his staff.jpg

· Cautious and careful (values his life):

The Monkey: "Master, stay right here. Old Sun will be back in a jiffy." Drawing a circle.jpg

Jiang Liuer sits inside the circle and nods obediently.

A demon passes by and tries to coax him: "Elder, why confine yourself to such a tiny space? The scenery here is lovely. What demons could possibly be around?"

Jiang Liuer closes his eyes and stays perfectly still. The demon tries again, and all he gets is, "Wukong..." Summoning.jpg

Jiang Liuer says: "I may be only a mortal, but I'm not an idiot. My brain still works! And also..."

"Bajie, you stole my water again!" Smack! The demon-subduing pestle bonks you on the head!

A capable monkey, a lazy pig, a simple-minded but clever monster, a taciturn horse, and an ordinary man make up a party traveling west to seek the scriptures (and benefit the people), spreading salvation to all (and expanding the realm).

The Tang emperor reads the imperial younger brother's letter delivered by Wukong Express and thinks: This place looks promising. Our Great Tang is full of talent. Perhaps all nations will come pay tribute!

Theme: Learn to be a good person before learning how to get things done.
