As a jujutsu sorcerer, Heifeng Hongyu died a pathetic death in her previous life.
This time, she got the worst possible start: she was reborn in a bloodstained basement.
The basement was like a breeding pit for venomous insects, with a dozen or so children locked inside. Hongyu was one of them. Their daily task was to fight to the death. It was a bloody mess, and they only got food if they won.
Only later did she learn that this was Kirigakure, one of the Five Great Ninja Villages.
She decided the working conditions were terrible and chose to defect from the village and find a better way forward.
It was around then that the Fourth Mizukage noticed her skills and offered to take her on as a disciple.
She thought it over and agreed.
But her boss was useless and got sidelined by hostile forces just a few years later.
She didn't want to work for nothing, so she planned to kick Karatachi Yagura out and become Mizukage herself.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. She never became Mizukage. Instead, she was tricked into joining the enemy and became a disgruntled wage slave.
But it wasn't a big deal. She could handle things. And if she couldn't, she would solve the problem another way. Namely, physically.

The first time Heifeng Hongyu met Uchiha Obito, she just thought he was noisy.
The Third Shinobi World War was raging at the time, and they met in a filthy hollow in a tree.
She had just finished an infiltration mission and was still wearing a Konoha forehead protector.
He was injured and hiding in the hollow to rest. Somehow, he mistook her for an ally.
The guy was overly familiar, with puppy-dog eyes that sparkled whenever he looked at anyone. He was incredibly annoying.
She put up with it, said little, protected him for a while, then left.
They met for the second time during another infiltration mission.
She spent a month undercover in Konoha, planning to assassinate the Fourth Hokage.
As luck would have it, the night she was about to make her move, the Nine-Tails attacked the village, throwing the whole plan into chaos.
Caught off guard, she failed to kill the Hokage and even ended up fighting Obito, leaving herself in a sorry state.
The third time they met was in Kirigakure... Let's not talk about what came after. It was all a nightmare.
