[Sorry, babies, I changed the hook a little. *fidgets with fingers.*]
In 2150, powerful monsters that preyed on humans suddenly appeared on Blue Star. They effortlessly destroyed hundreds of countries and seized eighty percent of the planet's land, reducing the human population by a third.
Society fell into chaos, and everyone lived in fear.
The surviving governments of every country made protecting their people's lives their top priority.
Fortunately, humanity evolved in the face of disaster. The newly evolved, superpowered humans stepped forward and became the first line of defense against the monsters.
But the problem was far from solved. Blue Star's territory continued to fall at a rapid pace, and humanity's very survival hung in the balance.
Just as the whole world was shrouded in despair, countless enormous projections appeared in the sky.
They were projections from a hundred years in the future. A person on the sky screen said that three hundred years from now, humanity would rise from its trials, win the war against its enemies, and restore society to prosperity.
And all of it would be thanks to the savior who emerged during the great catastrophe.
The streamer on the sky screen was a fan of the savior. His eyes shone as he recounted the savior's deeds, as if he knew them by heart.
He said that the mysterious savior had turned the tide and prevented a city of thirty million people from falling. He said the savior had found the monsters' lair and secured the future of countless people.
He said the savior had always rushed to the front lines, opening up a whole new future for humanity with his life.
The hopeful streamer spoke of the savior like an adoring fan, and had collected countless pieces of savior merchandise at home.
That savior, whose whereabouts and even time of existence were unknown, had become the hope of this ravaged land. Everyone remained glued to the sky screen, waiting for the savior to appear.
Pei Shutong was an ordinary college student. The sudden catastrophe had made life even harder for him, an orphan to begin with. Despite his excellent grades, he couldn't continue his studies. He had to enter the workforce early and struggle to make ends meet.
As he sat on the subway looking for work, he watched the sky screen's broadcast on his phone and listened to the streamer's passionate, hopeful voice.
Like everyone else, he hoped the savior who could change everything and save them would appear soon.
After several rounds of broadcasts, the streamer finally began describing the scene of the savior's first appearance.
On March 12, 2151, a monster would appear on Subway Line 3 in City X, between Feize Road and Tianyuan Road, and attack the passengers.
The more Pei Shutong listened, the stranger it felt. Why did that subway line sound so familiar?
He looked up. He was on City X Subway Line 3, traveling from Feize Road to Tianyuan Road.
Then he checked his phone. It showed March 12, 2151.
Before Pei Shutong could even process his shock, the streamer's voice rang out again. "...Everyone thought they were going to die. But no one expected the savior to make his first appearance on that train. He was wearing a blue hoodie, headphones, and a mask. He looked completely unremarkable, yet at the crucial moment, he saved most of the passengers on the train."
A blue hoodie, headphones, and a mask.
The subway car erupted into chaos.
With their lives in danger, the passengers hurriedly scanned the people around them.
Pei Shutong was one of them. Then he saw someone staring at him. More and more people fixed their gazes on him.
What?
He looked down at his clothes: a blue hoodie and headphones.
No, wait...
He glanced at his phone. The streamer had already put footage of the event up on the sky screen.
Why did the tiny figure on the sky screen look so familiar?
He looked up again. Every eye in the carriage was fixed on him, filled with hope and fervor.
Just then, swarms of monsters tore through the metal shell of the moving train and poked their heads inside, drooling as if they were checking out their little snacks.
Staring at the hideous monsters and the expectant passengers, Pei Shutong's mind went blank.
Hold on, I'm the savior? I'm supposed to fight monsters?
P.S.
I wrote this blurb before outlining the story and I'm too lazy to change it. The pacing and information in the actual story will differ a little, but the story and premise are the same. (Maybe I'll write a more fitting blurb someday.)
