I’m A Battle Card, But With Maxed-Out Charm Points

Tang Mian is an NPC in a card game: when a player throws down a card, the character inside appears to help them fight.

Unfortunately, Tang Mian has almost no combat ability, but his charm stat is maxed out.

He tumbles out of a card and meets the player's eyes. The player says, “Oh my gosh, baby! I can buy you skins, or, no, buy you some clothes to wear!”

Tang Mian: “...?”

Tang Mian discovers that a whole crowd of players who care about appearances have taken a liking to him. Combat-focused players may not care for him, but Tang Mian is perfectly content with his days of eating, sleeping, and occasionally being summoned for a miraculous makeover.

Then one day, as Tang Mian sleeps, he feels the familiar pull of a summons. Eyes still closed, he tumbles out and lands in something huge and fluffy. It must be a bed the player prepared for him, right? This player is really nice, Tang Mian thinks. Rubbing his face against the fluff, he murmurs sleepily, “Can I sleep a little longer?”

It is a card battle watched by countless people. One player has drawn the legendary top-tier SSR Battle Angel, who wins by an overwhelming margin.

Unable to accept defeat, the opposing player goes berserk and hurls every card they own onto the field, including the weakest N-rank card.

When that weakest N-rank card falls within the Battle Angel’s twin-wing attack range, something inexplicable happens. The invincible angel wastes the final two minutes of its time on the field...

In full view of everyone, it disobeys its summoner’s orders and embraces the sleeping Tang Mian, like a knight guarding a princess who cannot wake, an angel holding a pure soul close.

When Tang Mian wakes up, he finds that his card has become incredibly popular. Players have added a new title to the card’s list of nicknames:

“Sleeping Beauty”

Before Tang Mian can even react, he is summoned onto the battlefield again, bewildered. His opponent is the legendary SSR Demon King. At a single glance, the heat radiating from the Demon King turns Tang Mian’s hands red.

In front of everyone, Tang Mian says, “Ah, that’s hot.” The powerful, arrogant Demon King, who has never bowed his head to anyone, is at a complete loss and awkwardly apologizes.

After this battle, Tang Mian discovers that another title has been added to his card:

“Princess and the Pea”

Tang Mian: “???”

The protagonist thinks he is an ordinary, honest beta. He diligently goes to school and works part-time, and dutifully passes by a world where alphas and omegas are constantly hooking up.

In an era that increasingly champions freedom in love and the idea that soul-deep attraction matters more than pheromones, more and more alphas and omegas are rejecting the Federation’s mandatory matchmaking system.

As an employee of the Federation Bureau of Alpha-Omega Compatibility Surveys, the protagonist’s job is to persuade these alphas and omegas to give the government-assigned matchmaking a try. For some reason, every alpha or omega who vehemently objects suddenly falls silent after seeing his face, then starts asking eagerly about the matchmaking process.

Before long, the protagonist faces the biggest challenge of his career: the Federation Marshal, XX, an obnoxious alpha who is ridiculously high-maintenance and even pesters him after work.

For example, he messages him in the middle of the night:

“What kind of date spot would you recommend, junior?”

“Can you teach me how to tie a bow tie, junior?”

“What kind of alpha do you think people like these days, junior?”

“Do you prefer being on top or on the bottom, junior?”

The protagonist: “...?”

Everyone knows that the campus belle of the Federation Military Academy is a beta with no pheromones.

He defies everything people think they know about betas, beating out a whole crowd of alphas to become the academy’s top student.

During the years he led the Federation’s Mecha Department, the training grounds were filled with pheromones that alphas couldn’t help releasing during their heats.

But he couldn’t smell a thing.

The Federation Marshal looks back on the past and admits, for the first time, that he had a crush on someone while at school. That person was every alpha on campus’s dream lover, and the reason he kept rejecting the Federation’s mandatory matchmaking.

The beta sitting across from him nods. “So that’s how it was? I wonder who the omega was. If they’re interested in being matched, I can apply to arrange a government matchmaking session for you two.”
