How to Properly Raise Your Insectoid Commander

Xavier was born in an age of war. The six insectoid races slaughtered one another on their homeworld, Monlosa. He joined the military as a starship pilot, tasked with spearheading assaults into battle.

Monlosa had once been a hive world. Its active Mother Hive had continuously given birth to new insectoids. But the newborns were forced into the war as soon as they were born, only to die. The immense drain on its energy left the Mother Hive unable to function.

Before it went dormant, the Mother Hive began to deteriorate. It produced genetic contaminants that spread disease among the insectoids. New soldiers were born with defective bodies, while wounded soldiers died with their bodies rotting away.

For a long time, Xavier could always hear the Mother Hive's anguished cries.

It said, I cannot bear enough fruit to feed all my insectoid children.

It said, I am not vast enough to give every insectoid a place of their own.

It asked Xavier, How can this war be stopped?

Xavier knelt on the ground and touched a withered blade of grass. After a long time, he said, I don't know.

After it was discovered that Xavier had injected the Mother Hive with a massive dose of poison, causing its life processes across the planet to suffer irreversible decline, he was sentenced to death.

A thin layer of snow drifted down over Monlosa.

Before his execution, Xavier smiled gently at the six insectoid generals in the tribunal and pointed to his auditory receptors.

No one understood what he meant. Xavier knew the poison he had planted was actually a seed. Hundreds of years later, the Mother Hive would awaken and be reborn from the chaotic darkness.

In the meantime, the threat of extinction would force the six races to unite as never before. At least for a long while, a brief peace would become a vision they could realize.

And at last, he would no longer hear the earth's lament.

Xavier slept for many years, then suddenly woke again.

Not in an urn, nor in a coffin underground, but in a hospital resuscitation room, where an electric shock restarted his stopped heart.

After the world spun around him, a face covered in scars appeared above Xavier. "You're awake?"

Despite his horrific wounds, the man's features were well-defined. Before he was disfigured, he must have been very handsome.

Xavier blinked slowly. "?"

"Who are you, sir?"

"..."

"This is a prison on an island." The man used a short dagger to lift Xavier's chin, stared into his eyes, and smiled maliciously. "I'm the warden. Ze... Z07, you're a prisoner here."
