“An expendable is a minor character who dies because the plot demands it while the heroes and villains fight.
“An expendable senior brother is someone who joined the sect before the male lead and has a higher cultivation level, but worse character, and whose death makes the audience cheer... A beginner-level stepping stone villain.
“As for the Host... Uh, you're the original story's expendable senior brother.”
After listening to the System's ten-thousand-word explanation, Lin Shu, who had transmigrated to another world and lived a second life, already somewhat accomplished in the sword path, finally showed the faintest ripple of emotion on his cool, composed face.
He said, “If what you say is true, then who is the protagonist of this book?”
The System replied, “Your junior brother, Fang Ze.”
“That's nonsense,” Lin Shu said. “There is no one named Fang Ze on the Canglang Sword Sect's roster.”
“Oh, I forgot to mention,” the System added. “He only joined this year.”
Lin Shu: ...
-
Through the System, Lin Shu learned that, according to the book's plot, the male lead, who bears the bloodline of both immortals and demons, will give up everything and sacrifice his life and soul to stop a war between the Three Realms.
Yet because of all the complications, even after giving everything, he receives neither gratitude nor remembrance. Instead, the world forgets and despises him.
So Lin Shu never once carried out any of the original story's despicable schemes against Fang Ze: drugging him, stabbing him in the back, framing him, or smearing his name.
He simply watched over his junior brother in secret, took care of him, and did his best to treat Fang Ze well. Better and better.
He never expected that he would go a little too far and end up losing his own heart, too.
On the surface, the disciples of the Canglang Sword Sect believe their senior brother has severed himself from all emotion and desire, seeking neither love nor anything else.
In private, only Fang Ze knows that whenever that man is kissed, he always closes his eyes out of habit.

Cultured, gentle young demon lord X sharp-tongued but soft-hearted senior sword cultivator
“Across a thousand mountains and ten thousand rivers, I cup a handful of moonlight.”
Reading notes:
1. Strong leads, one-on-one, happy ending. A powerful, tsundere, catlike bottom X a calm, gentle, black-hearted wolf-in-sheep's-clothing top. The main couple is endgame, and the senior brother is the bottom!
2. The bottom transmigrates into a book, the top is reborn. The top loves playing the pig to eat the tiger and acting cute with the bottom. The bottom is strong and can fight. He's an ice mountain, but still has a human touch~
3. Transmigration into a book, in a fictional setting. Any resemblance is purely coincidental.
4. Historical danmei, younger junior brother and older senior brother: age gap romance is the best! Who's for it, who's against it!
Theme: My fate is mine to decide, not Heaven's.
