Eastern Japan. A certain barrier interfered with all the natural laws that should have followed the Heavenly Dao.
The [Evil God] began its [Game] on this land.
The international occult community sent experienced investigators to gather across Japan and conduct a secret investigation lasting a hundred years.
You, a rising star in the occult world of China, respectfully accepted your master’s order and took over from your missing martial uncle to continue the investigation. With the things your uncle had given you, you established a place to stay in Japan.
Then the game began. You entered the inner world.
You fell asleep and began creating your character.

[Game victory condition: Find "Nyarlathotep."]
On your first run, you were a low-level office worker in charge of the finances, watching the sorcerers’ exorcisms of cursed spirits create a fiscal black hole that sent your blood pressure soaring.
After finally finding a lead and getting close, the strongest sorcerer suddenly went berserk and blasted you to smithereens.
On your second run, you were an old nun at a mountain church. Your face looked so much like an ancient god that you nearly scared off your partner.
After much effort, the two of you established a rapport. Then, halfway through the investigation, his sanity hit zero and he killed you.
After being killed by both of them, you woke from your slumber to find the leader of the Star Plasma Vessel cult, who had killed you the previous moment, standing before you. The white-haired bastard who had blown you to bits on your first run was there too.
In reality. One was the man who had arranged a place for you to stay, and the other was a man you had fought in another country.
You desperately wanted to punch them both and ask if they were out of their minds.
But you couldn’t tell them the truth. It would violate the rules of the game, and they really could help you.
Then you lay back down.
*
The good news was that these two were quick on the uptake. With their help, you eventually found a lead.
The bad news was that there were bad actors in the jujutsu world trying to obstruct your investigation.
With your fiery temper, you couldn’t let that slide. You summoned the soul of the dead cult leader, joined forces with investigators from another country, and used a Bluetooth speaker to modernize your Halloween ghost-busting. In the end, you beat up the culprit and the jujutsu higher-ups, from oldest to youngest.
What a hassle. You fell asleep right in front of the strongest sorcerer.
The game continues.
After it was all over.
“So... that non-sorcerer nun who used to follow me, the high school girl who said she had nowhere to go... and the temporary assistant supervisor who followed Gojo, the girl from the Zenin family... They were all you?”
“You only just figured it out? I thought Gojo Satoru would have told you.”
“...”
“Hehe~ Dumbfounded, Suguru? I knew all along~”
P.S.:
The heroine is a shameless, laid-back badass. She’ll put on an act when the mission calls for it, and she’s very convincing. She’s not a traditional Daoist priestess; she can perform exorcisms with a Gatling gun.
In the [System], the heroine can take on different identities and investigate in a tabletop role-playing style, while her real self falls asleep. The online investigations in the System feature all sorts of tormenting of the cult leader and the shameless teacher at the technical college. Her true identity will be revealed later.

In this world, the accounts in China’s Investiture of the Gods and Journey to the West are "history."
The Hebrew Bible and The Song of the Nibelungs from Europe and America are also "history."
... The Cthulhu Mythos is too.
*
This is my own kind of wish-fulfillment story. Any out-of-character writing is on me, too.
With the exception of the old bastards, basically every Jujutsu Kaisen character will have their death flags exorcised.
*
Pairing: A Jujutsu Kaisen character.
There is a romance, but it isn’t the main focus. There are both straight and slash pairings. The story will describe occult and monstrous supernatural beings from various countries, and mix in some classic horror films.
Each chapter will include explanations of the terms that appear and their sources.
