If you enjoy this kind of food story, please add my upcoming novel, Everyday Cooking in the Countryside in the 1980s, to your reading list. My completed food novel of the same type, The Qin Family Restaurant in the 1980s, is also waiting for you to try!
When Chang Jiaxin transmigrates to a parallel world, she's just been through a kitchen fire.
She never thought there would really be someone in this world who burned down their home and got themselves killed just to fry a bowl of rice.
Thinking of the original owner's wish to carry on her parents' home cooking gives Chang Jiaxin, herself a novice in the kitchen, a headache. But having taken over someone else's life, she has to do something.
She tries to recall a tutorial for egg fried rice.
"The soul of fried rice lies in the texture of the rice. So, for the first step, steam the rice in a wooden bucket. The grains take on a woody fragrance and stick together. Wrap them in cloth and leave them overnight. That way, the rice will blend perfectly with the egg when you fry it."
"It shouldn't be hard, right? I just have to do the first step: steam it for fifteen minutes, then let it sit for fifteen minutes." After thinking it over carefully, Chang Jiaxin enters the kitchen for the first time and tries steaming a small pot of rice in a wooden bucket.
About half an hour later, she takes a bite of the slightly undercooked rice and decisively decides to lie through her teeth.
But then...
"Ding! Congratulations, Host, on making a bucket of undercooked steamed rice. Home-cooked feel rating: 100%. This System is now activated."
"Newbie reward: home-cooking recipe, stinky tofu fried rice..."
Getting a System after transmigrating is no problem, but are home-cooked dishes really supposed to be this bold and avant-garde?
Hm?
It didn't even glow, but this fried rice is incredibly good!
With her golden finger's help, Chang Jiaxin decides to emerge from the kitchen and open a home-cooking restaurant, bringing home cooking to the masses!
Later, as Chang Jiaxin completes missions and the System keeps giving her rewards, she gets recipes for tomato and tofu fish-head soup, spicy fruit salad, steamed stinky tofu with fermented amaranth, a pot of river-snail rice noodles with duck feet, and dry-pot beef with fermented sour flavor...
Huh, this steamed stinky tofu with fermented amaranth smells amazing!
Wait, you really can cook with fruit? My university cafeteria lied to me!
Whoa, she's actually a culinary genius!
And later, you know what happens: she's hired as a special chef for state banquets!
A few notes for readers:
1. There are some unconventional dishes. If they don't suit your taste, you can quietly close the book. Let's not make each other miserable.
2. A leisurely-paced feel-good story. The golden finger System helps a kitchen novice become a master chef. There's some heartwarming content, but mostly it's little moments from everyday life.
3. Most recipes are based on experience, books, documentaries, online videos, and so on. Special sources will be noted.
4. Thanks for stopping by.
Theme: No food is above or below any other.
My family is from Shaoxing You can eat amaranth stems, mold louvers and stinky tofu. But I have never eaten stinky tofu fried rice. Steamed stinky tofu is delicious.
When I was a kid, my grandma made seaweed stalks at home. It's terrible. Biochemical weapons. In fact, there are also mold louvers. . . Where can I find stinky tofu fried rice? It's terrible. This audience may not be large.
The more I read, the more I feel that the food in this article is like a complete collection of dark cuisine 😂
It's really special, hahahahaha, it's the first time I've seen it
Hold on, I'll eat it when I go to Hangzhou someday 💪 😆
My knowledge of food has increased again, but there are too many typos that affect the reading of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder. I look forward to corrections [Let me be healthy] [Let me be healthy] [Let me be healthy]
