The Empress Is Showered with Favor and Grace

As the Marquis of Shunchang's household fell into decline, Ji Fuqing entered the palace through the selection to preserve her family's honor, becoming a Palace Lady Ji.

The new consorts employed all sorts of schemes to compete for favor, but Ji Fuqing simply stayed quietly in her quarters, plucking the strings of her ancient zither with her jade-white fingers, day after day.

One day, Ning Zhaoyuan happened to hear a zither playing. His arrival startled the musician, whose eyes shimmered like spring water. She clutched her zither and hurried away.

That night, Ning Zhaoyuan summoned Ji Fuqing. He had assumed she was just like the other women in the harem, but he soon found himself craving her more and more, unable to forget her.

The harem was full of intrigue and treachery, but Ji Fuqing stayed clear of trouble and became the emperor's most beloved consort.

Everyone said Ji Fuqing was delicate and charming, yet she had managed to outshine the favored Imperial Consort, who had long enjoyed the emperor's favor. The newcomers tried again and again to imitate her, but none succeeded.

Ji Fuqing merely smiled when she heard this. Beneath her every frown, smile, joy, and irritation lay calculation and ruthlessness. It was not that the newcomers had managed to overtake their predecessors. They had simply appeared after her.
