At sixteen, Wen Ying saw Chu Yan for the first time.
The boy wore a white shirt and black pants. His face was gentle, and he smiled as he walked past her.
From that moment on, Wen Ying's heart pounded like a startled fawn's. Chu Yan never realized how she felt, though, and always treated her as a younger sister from a prominent family.
Years later, Chu Yan became a hugely popular Best Actor.
Wen Ying, meanwhile, was a minor star, barely known in the entertainment industry.
After falling out with her family, Wen Ying happened to run into Chu Yan again while drinking at a bar.
She used the alcohol and the bar's lighting to hide the clear look in her eyes.
Pretending to be drunk, she let herself fall against Chu Yan.
Her red lips parted, and the scent of her perfume was intoxicating.
Dressed in a sharp suit, Chu Yan was as courteous as ever. His expression was gentle but distant as he helped her up.
Before he could pull his hand away, Wen Ying looped her arm through his. Her soft voice rang out: "Would you marry me?"
She had said it under the influence, thinking Chu Yan would laugh it off.
She never expected him to say yes.
The two kept their engagement secret and met only once a month, on the first day.
Chu Yan was always gentle and polite, but one time, he came home to find Wen Ying returning after falling into the water, and his gaze darkened.
That night, as they "grew closer," Chu Yan was clearly holding back his anger.
Early the next morning, Wen Ying received a job offer.
Everyone in the entertainment industry said Wen Ying was lucky: all it took was one drama for her to win the Best Actress title.
But only Wen Ying knew what she had traded for that position.
And she knew that she wasn't the one in Chu Yan's heart.
The two continued their marriage of convenience, until the media accidentally photographed them entering the same residential complex.
That night, news of their relationship broke.
Wen Ying tried several times to set the record straight, but in the end, she didn't know what to say.
Finally, she drew up a divorce agreement and knocked before entering Chu Yan's study.
The room was dim. The tall, slender man stood by the window.
A faint ember glowed between his fingers.
Its tiny light made his features seem even more defined, but his eyes roiled with emotions he could barely conceal.
Wen Ying stepped forward and placed the agreement on the desk.
Before she could speak, Chu Yan pressed her down against the desk. His voice was low, laced with anger: "Don't even think about divorce."
Highlights:
The heroine has a one-sided crush on the hero. The hero is an over-the-top idealized heartthrob. If that's not your thing, please leave. The characters aren't based on real people, so don't make that association.
