In the age of the High Immortals, Heaven and Earth were upheld by a single White Crow Tree. One immortal sought to defy fate and change the heavens, watering the tree with water from the Black Mountains River. The tree bore a black fruit, and peace vanished from the world forever.
Chaos engulfed the demon realm, and a crow princess was born. But she was unlike other crows from birth: a white mark appeared between her brows, and a magical staff accompanied her.
The princess was a little lazy and especially eager to become an immortal.
She thought cultivating immortality sounded far too hard. Why not find an immortal and mooch off some of their magic instead?
She had a childhood friend, a handsome and talented young man who was bedridden with a chronic illness.
She left him behind and waited every day for an immortal to show up.
She waited and waited, and at last an immortal arrived. In fact, two immortals of exceedingly high rank appeared.
One offered to teach her how to cultivate immortality.
The other offered to share half of his cultivation with her.
Then, all of a sudden, her childhood friend recovered overnight, and his fighting power skyrocketed.
On the day the immortal was going to transfer cultivation to her, her childhood friend came with a sword in hand, refusing to let her leave with the immortal, no matter what.
She suddenly realized that her childhood friend was not only handsome, but also deeply devoted to her.
It turned out that neither her childhood friend nor she was mortal. Their fate was tied to all living beings, as well as to the survival of the White Crow Tree.
Driven by his hopelessly lovesick heart and seemingly endless energy, her childhood friend pursued her relentlessly.
He kept chasing her even as the world was destroyed, never giving up.
That was all right. They could have another life.
When they met again in that life, they fell in love at first sight. The first thing he said to her was, "Let's get married!"
She stood there stunned, and before she could react, he had her pinned against the wall.

My next novel, The Ballad of the Fallen Immortal, is coming soon. Here's the blurb. Please add it to your reading list!
Everyone says she can bring the dead back to life.
Qian Su was born into a distinguished family and was the descendant of the Fallen Immortals, upon whom the Immortal Capital placed its highest hopes. She gained the ability to resurrect the dead at the age of five, and at twelve was sent to the Fallen Immortal Palace to train as a candidate for the throne.
·
When she first entered the Fallen Immortal Palace, she casually chose a young man to be her attendant.
The young man was handsome and refined, with a gentle, graceful manner. He cared for Qian Su impeccably and stayed by her side until she came of age.
Who would have thought that the boy she had picked on a whim was Xuan You, the heir to the Imperial Mausoleum who had been left behind in the outside world?
·
Xuan You was a royal heir carefully raised by the Imperial Mausoleum. Born with the power to shatter the spirit realm, he could crush an opponent's spirit with a casual strike.
But he was rebellious from childhood. He ran away from home when he was young and was gone for a thousand years.
When the ruler of the Imperial Mausoleum finally found him, he was combing Qian Su's hair.
·
Everyone knew that the Immortal Capital and the Imperial Mausoleum had been bitter enemies for ages, vying for the throne.
As the most promising heirs of their respective clans, Qian Su and Xuan You were both dragged into the maelstrom of power struggles.
·
That day, Qian Su transformed all the spiritual power in her body into a roaring beast and hurled it at Xuan You with all her might. Her ruthless, all-out attack shattered his soul.
He barely survived.
·
A hundred years later, in pouring rain and bitter cold, Qian Su found Xuan You.
He was lying in a snowdrift with a flask of wine in hand. When he saw Qian Su, he slowly got to his feet and, just as he used to, asked her gently, "Qian Su, have you eaten properly today?"
Wrapped in a thick cloak, Qian Su walked up to him, took it off, and draped it over his shoulders. Tears glimmered in her eyes as she asked him with utmost seriousness, "Xuan You, if you had one more chance, could you claim the throne?"
He was silent for a long time. At last, as she began to cry, he answered with equal seriousness, "I could."
"The Immortal Capital has fallen. I've been poisoned, and I won't live past tonight. Now I'm going to bring you back to life."
Those were the last words Qian Su ever said to Xuan You.
·
After returning to the day Qian Su came of age, Xuan You, who had been supposed to accompany her through the ceremony, never appeared.
Not long afterward, Xuan You stood before Qian Su once more, elegant and immaculate. The overwhelming aura silently bursting from him, powerful enough to crush anything, sent her spirit scattering.
He looked down at her, his voice cool and clear. "Qian Su, let me walk this road of blood first."

The Second Marriage of the Heir Apparent: Please show your support!
Everyone says she is a painter the likes of whom appears only once in a thousand years.
In the first month of the twenty-first year of Shao, Yun Chuxian suddenly passed away, and the news spread throughout Yunling.
Born into a prominent family in the state of Shao, she had once been the celebrated "Painted Immortal." A single painting of hers was worth ten thousand taels of gold, yet she died young.
Everyone said she had abandoned her husband and her fame, then died with a folk painter in a lovers' suicide pact.
·
Yun Chuxian had once been married. Her husband was Mu Qiuliang, the renowned heir apparent of the royal family, exceptional in both looks and ability. Their marriage had nothing to do with love; it was entirely about their families' interests and the struggle for power.
·
When Yun Chuxian became engaged to Mu Qiuliang, he was away studying. He sent her a letter with just one word: "Agreed." He was willing to marry her.
Six months later, he hurried back from out of town on their wedding day. They completed the ceremony and spent the wedding night together, but he hurried away again half a month later.
He did not return until Yun Chuxian had died in a lovers' suicide pact with another man.
·
After Mu Qiuliang came back, he became Yunling's most talked-about figure overnight. His marriage to Yun Chuxian became the subject of endless gossip.
.
But nobody knew how many times Mu Qiuliang, the royal heir apparent who was always disappearing and whom the world believed to be power-hungry, ruthless, and married for political gain, had waded into the murky waters of the powerful families' schemes to profit from Yun Chuxian. Nor did they know how many problems he had handled for her when she was caught up in disputes over legitimate and concubine-born status in the Yun family.
·
Back to the nineteenth year of Shao.
The winter snow had melted, and spring was fading.
Dressed in a white ruqun embroidered with tiny pink flowers and carrying her painting supplies, Yun Chuxian went to a small lake to paint. Halfway through, someone called her name.
She turned around.
It was Mu Qiuliang.
He stood beneath a great tree, dressed in silver-white robes. His bearing was cool and refined, like snow atop a mountain, and his voice was just as cool.
"Yun Chuxian, I came to ask you something."
She rose and gazed at him in a daze, her bright eyes glistening like spring dew.
"What was so good about that folk painter that you would die for him?"
"I'm your husband."
