[Detective Conan] The Elementary Method

I just want to write a mystery story. The title is taken from Sherlock Holmes: Elementary.

-

Riya Natsuki, parachuted in from Tokyo Central to lead the Special Investigations Unit.

"You're right. I'm an autocratic superior." Riya Natsuki crouched down and held the phone, which was still dialing, to his ear. "Now tell the commander that you're voluntarily leaving the unit. Or perhaps you'd like to try a once-in-a-lifetime bungee jump without a cord."

Jinpei Matsuda clung to the edge of the rooftop, his whole body hanging over the drop. Furious, he stared at her and said, each word distinct, "I will never leave the unit."

-

"I respect your work." Riya Natsuki toyed with the handcuffs. "But over the course of my career, I've seen countless former officers who couldn't turn back once they went down this path. You're no exception."

Rei Furuya's face was grim. He raised his hands in surrender, every muscle tense. "How do you want me to prove it?"

-

I'm not smart enough to write high-IQ mind games. Whoever you vote for gets saved. Everyone who's supposed to die dies, except Matsuda.

My biggest hope when I started this novel was to pay off the premise.

Theme: Just stay alive.
