[Harry Potter] The Northern Star

Winter at the Black estate: an old English aristocratic family, a warm hearth, a lifeless manor, and intimate moments hidden from the old-fashioned adults' watchful eyes. Big sister is a rebellious Slytherin who puts on an elegant act, and little brother is naturally Sirius, the family's only Gryffindor. She brushes off friends from other old families with, "I'll be stuck at school after graduation anyway, since my family will arrange it. So why not do whatever I want?" That way, she can drop her social mask. She has little patience for people, and only shows even a (negligible) amount of sincerity to her little brother. When Walburga sends a Howler, she casts a Silencing Charm on it. When her brother barges into the Slytherin dungeon to find her, she says, "What's wrong with being a Gryffindor? He's my brother." And when he catches her out on a nighttime date, she soothes her jealous, furious brother with a kiss. The other Marauders, hidden beneath the Invisibility Cloak, are dumbstruck. The portraits lining Hogwarts' corridors are frozen in shock. The sky is falling! The Black portrait in the Headmaster's Office cries so loudly that Dumbledore can't sleep. "What's wrong with a brother and sister? He's gay too," the headmaster says cheerfully, sipping a Sherbet Lemon. "It's wonderful to be young." They love each other, but in the end they go their separate ways: the sister chooses the Dark Lord, the brother the Order of the Phoenix. The first Cruciatus Curse strikes her brother. Hogwarts' finest brawler is caught completely off guard. More than the physical pain, it's the disbelief that overwhelms him. Blood comes before tears. "Lyncis Black! How dare you do this to me?!"
