Unhinged Empress Dowager x Scheming, Devoted Chancellor
The good news: Chu Yun was reborn.
The bad news: Her mind was a blank, and she couldn't remember a thing!
Oh! She did remember that she had a husband, a devoted husband who visited her grave year after year.
Chu Yun's hazy eyes swept over the court below. At that moment, her husband in name was standing there, broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted, his expression displeased.
Wait, displeased?
Chu Yun glanced at her sleeves. They were so lavish they practically screamed wealth. She looked further down to see the officials of the entire court arguing fiercely, tensions running high.
But how had she been reborn as the Empress Dowager?
And her "husband" was standing below, watching her warily.
Had she mistaken him for someone else? Chu Yun shook her head. There couldn't be another person in all the world with such refined, cool elegance!
Her beautiful eyes shifted as a plan took shape in her mind.
"The emperor is still young and immature. What do you all think?"
The entire court fell silent, and every terrified gaze turned toward Zhou Du.
Zhou Du warily declined. "Your Majesty, I would not presume."
She raised an eyebrow and changed the subject. "I hear Chancellor Zhou is still unmarried?"
The entire court erupted! Every eye darted frantically between the two of them.
Could the Empress Dowager be planning to take Chancellor Zhou by force?
Zhou Du frowned. "Of all the waters in the world, I would drink from only one ladle."
What if she refused to let him?
Chu Yun: "I hear you like reciting scriptures?"
Zhou Du, cautious: "Your servant has always been fond of Buddhist teachings."
Chu Yun: "Oh? You love Buddhist teachings above all else? Why don't you look up at me?"
Zhou Du said nothing, but stepped backward.
Zhou Du had long known that Chu Yun had another motive for approaching him. Yet he willingly walked right into her trap. Even given a second chance, he was still doomed to fall for her.
"If that's the case, I'll bestow a scripture upon you."
She waved for a maid to bring ink, brush, and scriptures. Then, after dipping the brush in ink herself, she wrote the words one by one, starting at Zhou Du's neck and moving down to his chest.
A tingling, ticklish sensation spread through him. His earlobes had already turned crimson; surely his heart had been stirred. But Zhou Du's brows were knitted, and he still said nothing, looking every bit as if he were holding himself back, while his prayer beads danced between his fingers.
In a hoarse voice, he said, "Your Majesty, please control yourself."
Suddenly, the prayer beads snapped, scattering in every direction.
Chu Yun leaned close in front of Zhou Du, her breath fragrant as an orchid, her falling hair brushing across his chest.
"Zhou Ziheng, look at me!"
Her red lips parted. "You've fallen for me."
