Before Zhen Can transmigrated, she had read two books.
One was The Chronicle of a War Hero, a feel-good male-lead story about a man rising to power. It told the story of a consort who worked himself to the bone for his beloved Princess Royal, devoting himself wholeheartedly to her.
Unfortunately, the Princess Royal was a brother-obsessed sister, and became a sacrifice to her mother's preference for sons, helping her younger brother ascend the throne.
After the Princess Royal died, the consort took up his sword again, donned his armor, and went to war. For the Princess Royal, who had died a tragic death, he imprisoned his foolish mother, killed the new emperor, overthrew the old dynasty, and ascended the throne himself. He never married again for the rest of his life. It was the ultimate epic romance in a feel-good male-lead story.
The other was The Poison Queen's Tale, a tragic palace-intrigue drama with a female lead. It told the story of the empress, who maneuvered in court and schemed behind the scenes for the sake of her beloved daughter, the Princess Royal, preparing to help the brilliant princess take the throne.
Unfortunately, the Princess Royal was a hopeless romantic. She fell for her ambitious consort and became a stepping stone to his seizure of power, meeting her end with a broken heart.
After the Princess Royal died, the empress, overcome with grief and rage, eliminated the consort's supporters, killed his entire family, purged the court, and put her son on the throne, becoming a poisonous empress dowager for the ages. It was a tale of boundless maternal love and enduring sorrow, where not a single man in the world was any good.
The two books had only one thing in common:
"If the Princess Royal, a mere tool, had listened to the consort or empress dowager who truly cared for her, she would never have met such a tragic end!"
Now, Zhen Can was that very Princess Royal, the tool.
Devoted consort: "My life belongs to you. I'll clear every obstacle for you, even if it costs me my life!"
Loving empress dowager: "Your younger brother is weak by nature. I only hope you'll ascend the throne and become an example to all women."
Zhen Can: "...Mm-hmm, yes, yes, absolutely, sure."
She looked as steady as a mountain, but inside she was panicking like crazy.
There was only one month until the enemy reached the palace walls and the princess died a tragic death. So which book had she transmigrated into?!
1. Am I a brother-obsessed sister or a hopeless romantic?
2. I'm about to enter the dungeon and fight the boss. Which book's walkthrough should I follow?!
Theme: It is better to have no book than to believe everything in books, and better to defy fate than to believe everything is predetermined.
