Flower of the Mountain Stream

At twenty-eight, Fu Xiu became head of her company's research institute, with shares in the company and an annual salary of a million.

Everyone praised President Xiu as young, accomplished, gentle, and polite.

This beautiful, warm, and refined woman was only cold to the new intern.

The intern had a master's degree from overseas and was twenty-five, just three years younger than Fu Xiu. They'd attended the same university for their undergraduate studies, and seemed to have some old grudge between them.

The first time she met the intern, President Xiu flew into a rage in her office and tore up the resume the girl had handed her. If no one had stopped her, she might even have splashed the leftover tea on her desk in the intern's face.

The whole company thought the two of them couldn't stand each other. But somehow, the intern stayed on, with President Xiu personally taking her under her wing. She even gave up her own office to sit with the intern in the open-plan workspace, barking orders and scolding her in front of a hundred or so people every day.

Everyone felt sorry for the intern, but she seemed to enjoy it, coming and going with Fu Xiu every day and practically begging to be scolded.

Gradually, everyone started to suspect something was off.

The intern hadn't even been made permanent yet, so how had she already made herself at home, curling up in President Xiu's arms and shamelessly acting spoiled?

A little while later, they realized the intern was getting more and more outrageous.

They'd never seen anyone so brazen. The tasks the project team assigned her were so simple and straightforward, yet President Xiu, whose time was billed by the hour, still did them for her herself.

And President Xiu was pretty impressive too. She could soothe someone with a cold expression and somehow make it look convincing.

After growing up, Fu Xiu rarely thought about the past.

A difficult childhood, a broken family, a father who drank himself to death, and a mother who left her behind to remarry.

And the bad woman who stayed by her side through her lowest days, only to suddenly abandon her.

Until the age of twenty-eight, Fu Xiu never dated again.

She waited for many years, finally waiting until the other woman graduated and started job hunting, then watched the fool hand her a resume like an idiot.

She was already a company executive, while that fool was still just a useless intern.
