1. Cheng Yu was abandoned in the countryside as a child and grew up eating meals provided by kind neighbors. Though she endured many hardships, she grew into a delicate, breathtaking beauty, graceful and lively. She had no great ambitions, wanting only to plant crops in spring and harvest in autumn, weave cloth, work the land, and marry a good man so she could live out her days.
But in the year she came of age, a powerful household sent men and horses to bring her back. They raised her in luxury, and she learned that she was the illegitimate daughter of a marquis. Her mother had died young, and her father was the renowned Marquis of Yong'an. Above her was her pampered, talented, and arrogant legitimate elder sister, Cheng Wan.
Life at the marquis's estate was dull. One day, Cheng Yu went out with her maid to have some fun, but accidentally got lost in the woods. Alone, she wandered into a dangerous place inhabited by tigers and wolves. There she encountered a man in black robes, hunting with a bow. He was handsome, ruthless, and cold-hearted. He aimed an arrow straight at her, seemingly intending to take her life. She fell in terror, and the arrow wounded her left foot, but she managed to escape. From then on, Cheng Yu was terrified of that face.
2. The court was in turmoil, and the Crown Prince seemed poised to take the throne. To reassure the people, the emperor ordered the Cheng family, long loyal to the Crown Prince, to marry their legitimate daughter to the unpopular Seventh Prince.
The entire marquis's household was in despair. Everyone knew that Seventh Prince Cheng Zhuo was cruel and vicious, prone to murder and violence, and out of favor with the emperor. He was bound to fall from power sooner or later, and was no suitable husband.
Cheng Wan caused a scene at the estate, wailing that she wouldn't marry him. In the end, Cheng Yu married into the palace in her elder sister's place and became the unlucky one.
Worse still, on their wedding night, Cheng Yu saw his face in the flickering candlelight. Handsome yet grim, cold and heartless, he was the very man who had shot at her that day.
3. On their wedding night, Cheng Yu ran out of the room in tears, only to be caught and dragged back. She did this three times, until she was exhausted and fell asleep on the bed.
Cheng Zhuo looked down at her and sneered before leaving without a word.
From then on, whenever Cheng Yu saw him, she hid. If she couldn't hide, she kept her head down and said nothing.
The palace and her family both pressured her to have a child. In the end, she held back her tears and gave herself to him. He was violent and rough, and not gentle at all.
Just like later, after he murdered his brother, seized power, and forced the previous emperor to abdicate, he bent down in the cold throne room, gripped her chin, and chained her up. His voice was icy as he said:
"Wanwan, I'm right here. Where do you think you're going?"
An innocent, kindhearted country girl x a sinister, mad, ruthless emperor
He takes her by force. The male lead is crazy, absolutely insane!!!
She runs, he chases, and she can't escape even if she grows wings.
