They say the Gu Huo Bird appears and cries out wherever disaster strikes.
[So we woke you up to help the chosen ones in each world avoid disaster.] So said the being that called itself the System.
Gouxing picked at her ear. Never mind that she was a demon from China, what did the disasters in this world have to do with her, a bird?
[Look! A wild chosen one has appeared!] The System let out a shrill screech.
Gouxing took a closer look, and her heart leapt with joy.
They say the Gu Huo Bird has no children of her own, but loves to take human children and raise them.
A young child lay by the riverbank, wrapped in bandages, thin and pale, looking like he was on the verge of death.
Gouxing carefully sidled up to him, looking all around in every direction.
"Whose child is this? Is anyone here?"
If nobody wanted him... she'd take him!
Without another word, Gouxing scooped him up and ran.
[...Well, I suppose this counts as a good start?] The System fell into deep thought.
And so Gouxing began her never-ending career of picking up children.
The orange-haired, blue-eyed gravity manipulator, the sickly and gloomy Rashomon, the obedient and well-behaved Gin...
Using the perks she'd managed to wheedle out of the System, Gouxing lovingly raised them.
[Congratulations! You have successfully helped this world avert disaster. We will now travel to the next world...]
Looking at the children who had grown up healthy, Gouxing was full of pride. It was time for her to bow out after completing her mission.
Not wanting to face their grief, she left quietly without saying goodbye.
But she never expected the System to take her soul away to transmigrate, leaving her empty body behind in that world.
One ordinary afternoon, Dazai Osamu opened the door, carrying some pastries he'd bought for Gouxing.
But what greeted him was her motionless body.
A man who always had everything under control and could handle any situation with ease finally learned what helplessness felt like.
"You barged into someone else's world, then left without a sound. You're such a selfish person." For the first time, his brown eyes filled with tears.
From the moment they first met, Dazai Osamu had known she wasn't human.
"She can't really be dead. We'll find a way to bring her back," Dazai Osamu, Nakahara Chuuya, and the others said.
After learning what love felt like, they were no longer stray dogs with nowhere to call home.
One day, they would take back the light that belonged to them.
They say that after shedding its feathers, the Gu Huo Bird can transform into a beautiful woman of the mortal world.
Chrollo met a strange woman, as beautiful as a fairy and as graceful as a crane.
"Would you like to be my child?"
In Meteor City, a garbage dump that was like hell, she stood out from everything around her, beautiful and immaculate.
Chrollo brought her to their hideout. Her selfless love, like that of a holy mother, led them out of Meteor City and won everyone's hearts, including his own.
She did have one bad habit: she was always bringing home trash.
Like this red-haired clown, who spent all day laughing and joking around her. He was so annoying.
Much later, after completing another mission, Gouxing chose to leave, paying no heed to the Spiders going mad.
One day, on his way home from school, Fushiguro Megumi met a strange woman. She was beautiful, gentle, and carefully dressed. Smiling, she asked if he would like to be her child.
Would a woman like her really get involved with his deadbeat dad?
Fushiguro Megumi thought she was his deadbeat dad's new girlfriend, so he took her to the home he shared with Tsumiki.
From then on, Fushiguro Megumi experienced a love he'd never known before. The thing he looked forward to most every day was her coming home and gently kissing his forehead with a smile.
Until one day, she brought two people home.
One was a white-haired, sunglasses-wearing, obnoxious guy. The other had weird bangs, narrowed eyes, and a face that screamed liar.
Fushiguro Megumi was like a little beast whose territory had been invaded. He bared his teeth, bristling as he stood in front of her.
Gojo Satoru: "Hey, kid, how about I become your new dad? Your mom works so hard all by herself. You don't want that, do you?"
Geto Suguru: "Don't listen to him. He can't even take care of himself, so how could he take care of anyone else? Unlike me, I can handle anything at home or out in public. I'm much better suited to being your dad."
Fushiguro Megumi: "These two are shameless!"
Gouxing: "My children seem to be getting along well. That makes me so happy!"
After completing her mission, Gouxing, a demon who should never have appeared in the world, chose to fall asleep again.
Until one day, she opened her eyes and saw the children she'd raised so carefully.
But every last one of them wore such a dark expression.
What happened to my sunny, cheerful children?
Who are all these gloomy messes?!
Gouxing let out a shrill screech.
