With Him

When he was seven, the young master of the Xie family, Xie Shu, accidentally fell into the water. A Taoist priest judged him to be doomed to bring misfortune and sent him to a bamboo hut on Baiming Mountain.

At fifteen, unable to bear the loneliness any longer, Xie Shu sneaked out again. On the snow, he found a black snake fast asleep and brought it home.

He came to regard the black snake as his best friend. They ate and slept together every day, and even bathed together. But one day, the little, adorable black snake turned into a grown man and cornered him in the bathtub.

Chi Mo: "Ordinary people would avoid a black snake at all costs. But you not only insisted I stay, you even held me in your arms."

Xie Shu blinked. "How did you turn into a person?"

Chi Mo: "Are you scared?"

Xie Shu shook his head. "No, you're just too big now. I can't hold you."

Chi Mo: "..."

In the spring when he was twenty, Xie Shu, who had always loved spending time with the black snake, began to regret it a little. His mouth hurt, his waist hurt, and there wasn't a single patch of unbruised skin on his body. He tried to negotiate: "How about we take it a little easier? I can't even go outside like this."

But Chi Mo, wearing an utterly chaste expression, asked if Xie Shu wanted to give him away.

Xie Shu: "..."

Never mind. Staying indoors is pretty nice, too.
