A Song Just for You

In high school, Tan Yueyue had a crush on the older boy next door. She loved opening her window on summer nights and watching his profile as he read, framed by layers of overlapping tree shadows.

She always thought their feelings were mutual, silently understood by both of them, until that rainy night when they took shelter under the eaves and he suddenly asked, "Do you like me?"

Caught off guard, Tan Yueyue blushed. She thought a sweet first romance was about to begin, but all she heard was his cool, youthful voice: "Don't like me anymore."

Her first teenage crush came crashing down. Embarrassed, Tan Yueyue swore she would never speak to him again.

When they met again, Tan Yueyue was a renowned composer in the industry, while He Ran was a hugely admired powerhouse in film and television.

He often came to the recording studio without saying a word, sitting far away outside the booth for an entire afternoon.

At last, Tan Yueyue couldn't take it anymore and demanded, "What exactly do you want?"

He lowered his eyes and said softly, "I just wanted to... see you."

No one knew that He Ran had a white moonlight in his heart. As a boy, he had left home, eaten cold leftovers, and slept beneath bridges. The only thing he had kept with him was a battered MP3 player.

He had listened to every one of her songs and memorized every lyric. But it was only much later that he learned they were love songs written just for him.
