Did the Lazy Imperial Physician Get Buried Alive Today?

[A short-to-medium-length story. The author aims to wrap things up within 30 chapters. The author's mental state is unstable, so there may be frequent appearances by all kinds of overworked workers.]

Yu Jinfu transmigrates into the heir of a family of imperial physicians.

She's not the kind of miracle doctor who can bring the dying back to life. On the contrary, the Yu family's medical skills are mediocre, even a little terrible. The only reason they've clung to their posts in the Imperial Medical Academy for nine generations is their family talent for staying alive at all costs.

The day before Jinfu was due to take up her post, the old man called her into his room to lecture her. He asked what she needed to keep in mind as she started work, and Jinfu answered honestly, "Bind my chest, work diligently, and heal the sick."

The old man tore into her. "What kind of nonsense is that about healing the sick? Remember this: the first thing a good doctor needs to learn is how to get sick!"

Jinfu: ?

The old man said earnestly, "If a noblewoman gets pregnant, I get morning sickness. If the emperor falls ill, I get diarrhea. The point is to suffer alongside the powerful. If you get sick fast enough, the patients can never catch up with you, and you won't be dragged off to be buried alive with them. Got it?"

Keeping the old man's advice in mind, the lazy Jinfu set her sights on her target workplace, the Eastern Palace. She seized on the Crown Prince's preference for men as her best selling point and resolved to become the greatest hemorrhoid surgeon of her generation.

When she heard that the emperor had been gravely injured in an assassination attempt, she rubbed her hands together, ready to fake an illness so she wouldn't be dragged off to die with him.

But she picked the wrong spot to carry out her plan and accidentally ran into the Fifth Prince, who'd narrowly escaped an assassination attempt and was now fleeing through the palace, just as she was dousing herself with cold water.

They stared at each other.

The bucket slipped slowly from Jinfu's hands. The Fifth Prince smiled kindly.

From that day on, Jinfu's dream of working in the Eastern Palace was shattered, and she became his personal physician.

"Fine, you got me. I have no other demands. Just don't let me die with you if I can't cure you," Jinfu said, taking it in stride.

"I do have one little request," the Fifth Prince said, smiling even more kindly. "Take off your chest binder and become the empress of this dynasty."

What a joke, Jinfu thought. What's the difference? I'd still have to die with you in the imperial tomb.

Let someone else go. This lazy girl absolutely refuses to be buried alive!
