Blow Up Mount Fuji

"...The Japanese government has announced that it will officially begin releasing wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the sea on August 24, 2023, three days from now..."

In the cramped convenience store, the usually impartial news anchor on the wall-mounted TV sounded indignant.

"Uncle, a cola." The boy wore a white T-shirt and set a can of cola on the counter.

The cashier was watching TV with one leg crossed over the other. "Those damn Japanese!"

"Zhi, you hear that?" The shopkeeper was absorbed in the news, spitting with anger. "Do these midgets ever do anything decent?!

"If you ask me, we should've dropped two more atom bombs on them and wiped them off the map!"

"Sure, sure." Chen Zhi replied lazily, "Uncle, can I pay first?"

The shopkeeper grumbled as he scanned the cola.

Chen Zhi paid with his phone, picked up the cola, and walked out of the little store.

The shopkeeper kept fuming behind him. "Young people these days don't give a damn. They've forgotten all about patriotism. Back in our day..."

Crack. Chen Zhi pulled the tab open one-handed. The fizzy taste burst across his lips and tongue. As he drank, his phone screen suddenly lit up.

Ding, ding. A new message popped up in the green social app. Chen Zhi tapped it:
