Mudslide Stand-In

(The title and character names are on hold for now. This premise is too cute, and I want to write it, hahaha.)

Shi Miaomiao never imagined that such ridiculous luck would land on her, a miserable office drone.

When she was offered a fortune to be her boss's ex-girlfriend's double because she looked like her, Shi Miaomiao agreed without a second thought.

A job's a job, wherever you work!

"Miss Shi, you should think this through. Being a substitute is miserable. You're just someone else's shadow, and you'll never replace his true love."

Shi Miaomiao: "It's fine. A hundred thousand a month. Even being miserable is better than being an office drone."

"Young Master Zong Zheng has an unpredictable and devious personality. More importantly, he's disabled in both legs, and the doctors say he won't live more than two years!"

Shi Miaomiao: "Isn't that even better? Get promoted, get rich, and become a widow. Looks like I'll be a little rich lady before long."

After getting married, Shi Miaomiao completely let loose, turning into a lazy couch potato while "diligently" playing her role as the substitute.

Zong Zhengting: "She'd buy piping-hot roasted sweet potatoes when it was cold and wait for me to finish work."

So Shi Miaomiao handed him the half-eaten sweet potato, looking at him with deep affection.

Zong Zhengting: ...

Zong Zhengting: "She'd gaze at me bashfully, then hide in my arms."

So Shi Miaomiao charged into his arms, laughing like an idiot. Still laughing, she showed Zong Zhengting a video. "I can't. This is so hilarious, I'm about to laugh myself sick."

Zong Zhengting: ...

Just as everyone was pitying Shi Miaomiao and imagining that Zong Zhengting would torment her until she was barely recognizable, he gently shielded her from the sun as she slept through her afternoon nap.

Later, when his true love came back, Shi Miaomiao sensibly packed up her valuables and prepared to step aside.

But Zong Zhengting grabbed her with red-rimmed eyes. "Leave? Did you never love me at all?"

Shi Miaomiao: ! When I signed up to work for you, nobody said I'd have to act out a story about falling in love with a walking moneybag!
