Blurb:
After years of exercising patience, the current emperor finally resolved the situation of the regional governors ruling independently. Now, only Jiannan, tucked away in a remote corner, remained to be dealt with.
General Lin, stationed at the Jiannan Military Governor's residence, fell into deep thought, secretly hoping that His Majesty would soon forget about a minor figure like her.
But His Majesty not only remembered her, he kept her very much in mind:
His Majesty treated her warmly, and she trembled with trepidation.
His Majesty treated worthy men with respect, and she felt as if she were walking on thin ice.
His Majesty called her his sworn brother, and she was filled with fear and anxiety.
At last, she began to suspect that she might have been worrying too much.
That night, she dreamed of her previous life: a long sword pierced her chest, blood stained the great hall, and His Majesty sat far away, his expression cold.
She jolted awake and packed her bags that very night, preparing to resign.
His Majesty gently ran his hand over a painting. The woman depicted had gracefully arched brows, white teeth, red lips, and a captivating charm. It was unmistakably her, dressed as a woman. He asked, "General Lin, where are you going?"
