Devoted puppy-like lover x gentle, quiet blind girl
A story of two breakups and reconciliations, and a misunderstanding that remained unresolved for ten years.
Online author Ren Jingchu was framed by a fellow writer and caught up in a plagiarism scandal. At a friend's suggestion, she became a volunteer to repair her reputation.
Ren Jingchu gently pushed open the door and saw the living room in complete disarray. In the wardrobe, she found Ruan Yufeng curled up in a ball.
Ruan Yufeng had pale skin and striking beauty, but her eyes were as lifeless as a dark lake shrouded in mist on a moonless night.
She was a celebrated genius painter, but after an accident took her sight, she could only shut herself away in a cramped room without a trace of light.
With her arms around her knees, she asked, "Are you the volunteer Xiao Zheng sent?"
Ren Jingchu confirmed it, then accidentally knocked over the old phone Ruan Yufeng treasured. The phone and its earphones fell to the floor, and everyone gasped.
To everyone's surprise, Ruan Yufeng first froze when she heard her voice, then smiled in a way no one had expected.
With Ren Jingchu's comfort and companionship day after day, Ruan Yufeng gradually emerged from the gloom. Her lifeless eyes slowly filled with smiles. Like a withered tree welcoming spring, she came back to life. The two officially began dating, and she kissed Ren Jingchu on the cheek as she planned their future:
"We'll get a puppy and take it around the world."
The day before her surgery to restore her sight, Ren Jingchu accidentally knocked over a rusty tin box. Inside lay a photo of her from ten years ago and a keychain.
Ren Jingchu was thunderstruck. Ruan Yufeng was the online lover she had loved desperately in her youth, only to be dumped by her right before the college entrance exam.
Clutching the keychain, Ren Jingchu laughed and cried. She swallowed her heartache and ten years' worth of grievances, then returned to the old city that very night.
Another autumn came, and the two met again. Ruan Yufeng picked up a plane tree leaf. She held a bouquet of flowers with an old kraft-paper envelope tucked into it: "My eyesight is back."
Ren Jingchu couldn't help but turn red-eyed, but she kept silent.
Ruan Yufeng rambled on about the regrets of the past ten years, and about how Ren Jingchu was the white moonlight in her heart.
The writing on the kraft paper had long since blurred, and the paper was fragile and worn. The young writer had written down her most sincere love, one stroke at a time.
At the end of the letter, another line had been added:
"If I could hear your voice and touch your fingertips, I would willingly live in darkness forever, without regret."
