After Mistaking My Target for the Wrong One, I Got Together with the Protagonist's Older Brother

[Interstellar Magic] This is the story of Nan Ying, the protagonist gong, who abandons his betrothed, the background-character protagonist shou, for the one he loves, giving up the throne in the process.

Lu Wenxi chooses the least likely option from all the choices offered by the System: changing the established plot. He transmigrates into the role of the protagonist shou, who is abused by Nan Ying, body and soul, until he meets his death.

On his first day after transmigrating, Lu Wenxi pins protagonist gong Nan Ying down and mistakes his older brother for his target.

The livestream chat fills with comments from clueless viewers.

His bad luck kicks in during the pursuit, and Lu Wenxi trips over his own feet and falls into the arms of his "target."

Nan Xi kindly helps him up. "How did you manage that? You tripped yourself and made it look so convincing." His serious tone makes the sarcasm hit even harder.

Lu Wenxi: ...If I say I didn't do it on purpose, would you believe me?

At the annual inter-academy tournament, Lu Wenxi makes rapid progress and breaks into the top ten. The stubborn viewers in the livestream chat say, "Does the System have to work this hard to meet its quota now?"

Nan Xi takes Lu Wenxi's hand. "We agreed to get engaged after the tournament. You shouldn't be getting too physical with the other competitors."

Livestream chat: ..."I sincerely wish you both well, and just threw an egg at the original protagonist gong."

When Lu Wenxi defeats the genius ranked second at the neighboring academy, someone in the livestream chat timidly asks, "Are you looking for a sidekick, streamer? The kind who can roast people, send you loads of tips, and call you boss."

After getting engaged, Lu Wenxi happily waits for the System to announce that he has successfully changed the plot. Instead, the System tells him that the mission succeeded, but he picked the wrong target, so half his reward will be deducted.

So why is his teammate, who always glares at him and mocks him while his affection level keeps rising, actually the protagonist gong?
