Let Go! Don't Hold the Dog in Your Mouth!

[Highly recommended upcoming story: "I Raised a Tabby Cat". Add it to your favorites if you're interested!] As a stray dog living in the city, Qile knew there were only two rules for survival. First, be cute enough to beg for food, and act like a friendly little dog who'll roll over and show its belly at any moment. Second, be tough enough to fight. When facing other dogs, take them down without hesitation. With those two skills, it thrived in the city, keeping itself sleek and shiny and enjoying a carefree life. Until one day, a police car stopped at the entrance to the old street. The person in charge opened the door, and a wolfdog much taller than Qile leaped out. The wolfdog was large and imposing, outfitted with all the gear of a special police dog and wearing protective armor, including a metal bite guard. When it went on duty, its muzzle was removed, revealing sharp fangs. At a command, it shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bow and disappeared from sight. For the first time, Qile realized that not all dogs were created equal. * "Luo Jiu!" At the handler's command, police dog Luo Jiu immediately sat down, gazing straight ahead with a resolute expression. But before long, its gaze fell on another dog hiding in a gap at the corner of the wall. That fellow was sneakily sizing it up. There was a calculating glint in its dog eyes, and it didn't look like a good dog. Annoyed by the stare, Luo Jiu let out a warning growl. But instead of getting scared and running away, the other dog perked up its ears with even more interest, provoking Luo Jiu. Luo Jiu instinctively bared its sharp fangs. As soon as training ended, Luo Jiu went straight for the other dog. The stray hadn't noticed the danger creeping up behind it when Luo Jiu suddenly grabbed it by the scruff of its neck. The stray immediately began to struggle. "Let go! What kind of jerk grabs a dog by the scruff?" Qile decided it should add a third rule for staying alive: if you can't take the other guy down, there's a good chance he'll take you down instead. It had to admit, it regretted acting so recklessly. It can climb onto roofs and knock things over, catch fish and mice, and beat every cat in the village in a fight. Then one day, while chasing a mouse, it crashed into a person and sent him to the hospital. Qiaomu: ??? Was I just framed, meow??? The man was no ordinary person. He was the grandson of the owner of this old house. The last animal to get on his bad side, a big white goose, had already been tossed into a pot and stewed by the old man. Qiaomu sat on the eaves, resigned to its fate, gazing at the moon and feeling miserable. It thought that when the man came back, it would catch a mouse to apologize. Then that mouse once again landed the man three shots of rabies vaccine. Qiaomu: Why is this guy so fragile? The mouse was barely alive, and he still couldn't beat it! But before it could come up with another way to make amends, the old house was demolished, and the man took it straight to the city to keep as a pet. Qiaomu: Let go of me! I'm not meant to be kept in captivity. I want my freedom! How dare you! 2. Gu Nan got a call from the old man telling him to bring home the family cat before the old house was demolished. He'd thought it would be a simple trip to pick up a cat. He'd seen cats at cat cafes before, and they were pretty, gentle, and affectionate. But he never expected his family's cat to be a tabby, commonly known as the "ruler of all cats." On their first meeting, the cat dropped out of nowhere and sent him to the hospital. On their second meeting, the mouse it brought him bit him, earning him three shots of rabies vaccine. On their third meeting... he just stuffed the cat into a cage. He'd better make time to teach this cat how to be a well-behaved, obedient pet! Three days later... Gu Nan sat on the living room sofa, claw marks on his face. He sighed and said, "Forget it. I should work on talking myself into it." 3. Gu Nan had never owned a pet. For his first, he picked the highest-difficulty tabby cat.
