At the 1992 Inter-High, Kyoto Prefecture had only one team competing.
But what if there were another?
A grand ensemble story featuring a huge cast of original characters! (X)
Volume One:
Kyoto Penglai High School is a private school in ancient Kyoto, famed for its "freedom and independent thought." It has two major claims to fame: every year, it sends many students to universities to study biochemistry and pharmaceuticals, and it has trained many outstanding table tennis players.
Now it is about to gain a third claim to fame: a basketball team made up of top players from Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Kanagawa.
The true spark of basketball at Penglai High is standing at the club sign-up booth, asking with barely concealed excitement:
"Penglai High doesn't have a basketball team?"
Volume Two:
How did childhood friends end up scattered so far apart?
Why did a promising basketball player move all the way to Kyoto?
Did their reunion at the Inter-High resolve anything?
What exactly happened in Kanagawa in 1990?
All will gradually be revealed during these seven days of training camp!
There are likely to be four volumes, though it shouldn't be very long.
Volume One is the main story: an underdog team of nobodies fights its way to the Inter-High in its third year. The main viewpoint character is Tachibana Tatsumi.
Volume Two is a side story about why the gods of Kanagawa left their blessed land. The viewpoint characters alternate.
Volume Three is the hidden story: things that happened before or alongside the events of the first two volumes, unknown to Tachibana Tatsumi and Namikawa Meguru. The main viewpoint character is Miyamizu Izumi.
Volume Four fills in the gaps, with short bonus stories from supporting characters' points of view.
A brainchild taking up space, with plenty of melodrama and major changes to the original. There are currently thirty-six chapters, each averaging a little over three thousand characters. Updates from here on are whenever I feel like it (.
After seeing the anime for the third time, I recovered childhood memories from over twenty years ago and passionately started writing. There are lots of plot holes. The beginning has a lot of original characters, and stories involving characters from the original work gradually appear from Chapter Three. Their names are mentioned outright in Chapter Seven, and they appear in person in Chapter Eight. The original plot has been heavily altered.
If you can't handle too many original characters, you can start at Chapter Six. I just thought that since I'd come up with all this worldbuilding, it would be a shame not to write it. Still, I recommend starting from the beginning. If you jump straight to Chapter Six, some scenes may feel very abrupt... Chapter Six really is explosive, and the overall "youth" theme of this story goes pretty hard on the kinks, so be prepared.
There are a few elements from Your Name and Onmyoji, with plenty of personal headcanons, but they're just part of the hidden story and don't affect the main "basketball and youth" plot.
The side plots, hidden threads, and relationship routes contain some messy love-triangle dynamics, so please pay attention to the author's notes.
Theme: Burn with passion, enjoy basketball, and have no regrets about your youth.
Come on! Very interesting setting, looking forward to the follow-up
