Jiang Man is a fickle girl, but the one thing that never changes is how much she dislikes her childhood friend, Chen Yuzhou.
Chen Yuzhou is a quiet, taciturn top student, a dazzling all-rounder.
He looks down on everyone, is unbearably arrogant, and seems to have no weaknesses. He's so perfect it's annoying.
This guy has witnessed far too many of Jiang Man's embarrassing moments, and she can only remember his flaws. After a fight that came out of nowhere, they gave each other the cold shoulder for a year.
Then came that summer night when the rain soaked everything.
In the stuffy, dim room, Chen Yuzhou caught her by the wrist as she tried to leave.
His palm was burning hot. Their eyes met. The evening breeze stirred the white curtains, and the old wind chime Jiang Man had made for him as a child rang out as her heart pounded against it.
The boy leaned closer, his voice low and hoarse. "Do you even know what a crush is?"
"We're childhood friends. Could anyone be closer than us?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly kissed her.
Jiang Man's head was spinning. She thought about it slowly.

In Chen Yuzhou's seventeen years of life, Jiang Man had been there for fourteen of them.
Like a heroine from a martial arts tale, she had always shielded him, shouting with self-righteous confidence, "Crybaby Chen Yuzhou can't get by without me!"
She was right.
He couldn't get by without her.
He'd always thought Jiang Man was oblivious, automatically filtering out the affection in his eyes whenever he looked at her.
But then he noticed the girl beginning to avoid his gaze, no longer draping herself over his shoulders like she had no bones. Under the sunset, the tips of her ears were redder than the clouds on the horizon.
He knew she had fallen in love with him.
