Arranged marriage to love x mutual devotion
After both her parents died, Wen Zhuxin wanted to bring in a kind, gentle man from a poor family as her husband, to protect her vast inheritance from those who coveted it.
One day, while coming down the mountain in a heavy rain, she rescued an injured young man.
Simply dressed, with kind eyes, and suffering from amnesia, he was practically the perfect candidate, delivered right to her doorstep by Buddha himself.
After she took meticulous care of him, they were married before long.
After the wedding, Wen Zhuxin gave him a life of luxury, and he stood up for her, helping her fight off the uncles who wanted to swallow up her inheritance.
She thought living like that wouldn't be so bad. Then one day, her husband regained his memories and told her he had to leave.
Only then did Wen Zhuxin learn that the husband she'd picked up was the Crown Prince.
He had to return to his life as a noble Crown Prince. Wen Zhuxin couldn't stop him. But it wasn't until three days after he left that she realized the two of them hadn't gotten a divorce.
But she wouldn't even dare imagine marrying the Crown Prince. Surely it didn't count anymore.
She took it upon herself to tear up their marriage contract, planning to find another gentle, kind husband come spring.
But when matchmakers crowded into the Wen residence, a grand bridal procession from the capital filled Wen Zhuxin's front courtyard.
At the same time, her husband, who had been missing all winter, was ushered in by his retinue. He looked around and smiled. "What kind of husband does Miss Wen want to bring into her family? Would someone like me do?"
Wen Zhuxin: !!!
Caught red-handed by her ex (crossed out), the Crown Prince husband, trying to find a new man. Is she done for?!
Mini-scene:
When a merchant's daughter became the Crown Princess, people sourly said that the Crown Prince was merely repaying her kindness out of noble duty. How could he possibly have genuine feelings for her? Wen Zhuxin thought so too.
But later, Wen Zhuxin came out of the study rubbing her arm, on the verge of tears.
She used to only have to manage one household's accounts. Now she had to manage the accounts of the whole realm.
She used to only have to fend off her covetous uncles. Now she also had to guard against the gentle and charming Crown Prince.
Life was so hard. QAQ
