The Sickly Protagonist Has Given Up

An Huai was born beautiful, but sadly, he was also born frail. Every renowned doctor he consulted said he wouldn't live to thirty.

After waking from a serious illness one time, he unexpectedly learned that he was the protagonist of a novel. Though he was gravely ill throughout the story, he managed to cling to life until the very end.

An Huai looked at himself in the intensive care unit, covered in tubes and unable to move: "..."

Who needs a protagonist's halo anyway?

After leaving the hospital, An Huai donated the mountain of medicine piled on his desk to people who needed it more.

Why bother taking medicine?

He's the protagonist, after all. He can't die. He's decided to lie flat.

On the Nth day of lying flat at home, his parents tearfully told him their family had gone bankrupt. To pay for his treatment, they had no choice but to marry him off to the powerful man next door, a sworn enemy of their family.

An Huai: "???"

That's the biggest villain in the whole book! (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻

What kind of rotten protagonist's halo is this?

Fu Chen lost his mother when he was young. His stepmother mistreated him, his stepbrother humiliated him, and his own father might as well have been dead for all the attention he paid.

The people around him took every opportunity to kick him when he was down, including the An family next door.

Later, once he held all the power, he slaughtered everyone who had wronged him, yet spared the An family, on one condition.

He wanted An Huai to marry him.

On their wedding night, An Huai lay weakly in bed, listening to the villain's almost inaudible footsteps draw near. He figured his protagonist's halo had finally run out, and it was time to pay the price.

As he lay flat, waiting for the villain's revenge, someone gently kissed the fingertips resting beside the bed.

He opened his eyes and saw the villain kneeling reverently at his bedside, gazing at him with tenderness and apprehension.

Fu Chen would never forget that winter seventeen years ago, when someone had walked barefoot across the snow to bring him medicine and warm clothes, telling him that he had to stay alive to have hope.

"A-Huai, if you live, I'll do everything I can to cure you. If you die, I'll leave everything behind and join you."
