A Laid-Back Life in Emperor Kangxi's Harem (Qing Dynasty Transmigration)

Jialan transmigrates to the Qing dynasty and becomes Ping Consort, one of the least-favored women in Kangxi's harem.

Jialan: I didn't particularly want to transmigrate.

Ping Consort lives up to her name. Her looks, temperament, and favor from the emperor are all utterly average.

Even her one distinguishing trait, being the empress's younger sister, isn't unique to her.

First there was Noble Consort Wenxi, then Little Noble Consort Tong. Of all the women who became consorts within three years of entering the palace, she's the least successful. And when she dies, she'll be the youngest of them all.

Jialan: If I'm destined to die young, why bother competing for the emperor's favor or getting caught up in palace schemes? I'd rather lie down.

But not only is her lifespan a problem, she also has a nephew who is the current crown prince.

Everyone knows this crown prince will anger Kangxi in the future, be deposed twice, and reinstated twice.

What almost nobody knows, but Jialan does, is that the crown prince and the petty Yongzheng Emperor are not only political enemies but have a personal grudge. Once, in front of a crowd, the crown prince beat him unconscious...

Jialan: ...

What is there to say?

Life is short. Enjoy it while you can.

Jialan gives up completely.

While other women avoid even a drop of oil to keep their faces and figures slim, she devours roast meat, fried chicken, and cream cakes at all three meals.

While other women go to great lengths to seduce the emperor when it's their turn to attend him, she calls him brother-in-law at every opportunity and ruins his mood.

While other transmigrators try to set the crown prince straight or win over the future Yongzheng Emperor, she treats every prince and princess alike, kneading and squishing their chubby faces one after another. They feel great!

She lets loose like this all the way to the year she was supposed to die of illness. Instead, she is promoted to Noble Consort early and is still alive and well.

Jialan: Isn't something wrong here?

Kangxi, drafting an edict to make her Imperial Noble Consort: What's wrong?

The crown prince, now on good terms with his brothers and still enjoying a loving father-son relationship with Kangxi: What's wrong?

The consorts, princesses, and princes, all eyeing the small kitchen in the Chuxiu Palace and relentlessly trying to cadge snacks every day: What's wrong?

Theme: Everyone deserves a better life
