The Secret Relationship Between Mr. Wen and Miss Li

Li Taozhi quit her job and ended her three-year secret crush at the same time.

Her new boss, Wen Zechuan, was a workaholic: strict, severe, and nitpicky, never saying a word that wasn't work-related. To him, employees had no gender, only varying levels of ability.

After a business meeting wrapped up with time to spare, Wen Zechuan decided on the spot to visit his grandmother at the nursing home. Li Taozhi went with him.

Old Madam Wen was getting on in years, and her mind wandered now and then. She took Li Taozhi's hand and smiled warmly. "My granddaughter-in-law is here."

Wen Zechuan replied gently, "Yes, Grandma. We're here to see you."

Li Taozhi immediately caught on and played along. "Grandma, are you feeling better?"

Not long afterward, Old Madam Wen was discharged and returned home.

At the family dinner, Li Taozhi nervously played the part of a granddaughter-in-law, while everyone humored the old lady to keep her happy. But one person had to ruin it, exposing their lie and angering Old Madam Wen so badly that she fainted and was rushed to the hospital.

Li Taozhi was summoned to the office, which was filled with the pungent smell of smoke.

The glowing cigarette in Wen Zechuan's hand was crushed into the ashtray. For the first time, he spoke about something other than work. "Secretary Li, there's a personal favor I'd like to ask of you."

Wen Zechuan's discreet marriage became a hot topic at the company. Everyone was quietly wondering what Mrs. Wen was like.

Two young women at the front desk cornered Li Taozhi to ask for gossip.

"Secretary Li, have you met Mrs. Wen? I wonder if Mr. Wen ever smiles around his wife."

"What do Mr. Wen and his wife talk about in private? Stock prices?"

"It's hard to picture Mr. Wen being considerate and caring toward his wife. Wouldn't she find him unbearable?"

The two young women were chattering away when Wen Zechuan came in from outside and passed the front desk without changing expression.

The two of them were so frightened they turned pale.

Li Taozhi reassured them gently. "Actually, Mr. Wen may seem cold, but he's warmhearted. He's a good person."

The young women exchanged glances. A good person?
