Hoshina E's childhood friends are Tsukishima Kei, Yamaguchi Tadashi, and skateboarding. Oh, and volleyball too.
A fashionable, sassy trendsetter who's always ahead of the curve, Hoshina E is forever covered in all kinds of accessories, with more dangling from her bag. She's convinced that this look makes her seem unapproachable.
Her tall, blond childhood friend looks her up and down with a mocking grin. “Oh, come on. You're such a tiny thing. Don't get ahead of yourself.”
Hoshina E, with one hand planted on her forehead so she couldn't reach him no matter how hard she tried, hopped around in frustration. The next day, she hung plush charms on both boys' bags and ordered them to weld the charms on so they couldn't take them off.
Hoshina E, who considers herself an expert on all kinds of manga, is certain that her trio of childhood friends is the most solid group around. He's delicate, he's well-behaved, and she's cool. They're destined to be best friends forever.
Her tall, green-haired childhood friend timidly raises his hand. “Um, E-chan, maybe you're the delicate one...”
Hoshina E: “I can't hear you, I can't hear you! The turtle's chanting sutras!”
In elementary school
Hoshina E: “Let's go skateboarding!”
Tsukishima Kei: “Let's play volleyball!”
Yamaguchi Tadashi: “Uh, um, well... Either is fine!”
In middle school
Hoshina E: “You don't like volleyball anymore?”
Tsukishima Kei: “...No. Maybe some other time.”
Yamaguchi Tadashi: “Aw...”
Hoshina E: “Do you still like the little strawberry cakes from the Miyamura bakery?”
Tsukishima Kei: “...I do.”
In high school
Tsukishima Kei: “It's just a club activity.”
Hoshina E: “You'd better give it everything you've got!”
Yamaguchi Tadashi: “Give it everything you've got!!”
Life at Karasuno High is a lot of fun. The upperclassmen in the volleyball club are all interesting, and the manager is as beautiful as a fairy and so considerate. It's just that her snarky, deadpan childhood friend never seems to get motivated, which is downright irritating. Hoshina E pouts. He loves volleyball to death, but acts like he couldn't care less. What is this, forced love?
Even though her nitpicky childhood friend spends all day throwing insults at everyone without distinction, Hoshina E has little Tadashi the puppy, super enthusiastic classmates, and reliable upperclassmen. She's having a blast in the volleyball club.
One day, a buzz-cut upperclassman notices the felt dolls dangling from his two underclassmen's bags. When he learns they were made by their junior manager, he demands one too, only to get a headbutt from the captain. When Hoshina E hears about it, she soon gives everyone a tiny crow.
Later, during a training camp, every Karasuno member has a little crow of their own, making everyone from the other schools green with envy.
Nekoma: “As if having three beautiful managers wasn't enough, they even have their own handmade merch!” (burning with jealousy.jpg)
The buzz-cut senior plants his hands on his hips and laughs. “Go ahead and be jealous! Hahaha!”
Later, they make it to the national-level tournament.
Hoshina E: “Do you want to win, Tsukki?”
At last, the boy hailed as Karasuno's brain lights up with a desire for victory.
As the moon rises, the night glitters.
Hoshina E has always looked up at the moon and followed it. Little does she know that the moon longs to draw her starlight into its embrace, too.
A story about someone who only wanted to see Tsukishima Kei shine, but ended up getting won over herself.
