In a distant village lived a beautiful saintess. A wandering knight journeyed there.
Legend had it that a terrifying demon haunted the village. Every month, the people had to sacrifice someone chosen by the demon. Otherwise, the village would be slaughtered and the saintess would meet a terrible end.
The villagers praised the saintess for her noble and selfless nature. She was the embodiment of gentleness and divinity, bargaining with the evil god on their behalf and doing all she could to prevent death and bloodshed. In return, the saintess had to endure immense suffering.
At first, the knight couldn't believe the saintess could be so selfless and noble. But after witnessing her sacrifice herself again and again, he fell helplessly in love with her.
“Please tell me how I can ease your suffering. Even if I can relieve only a fraction of it, I'll do anything for you.” The knight knelt before her, gazing at her with devotion.
The saintess lowered her eyes. Her skin was as pale as snow, and her gaze held the desolate sorrow of winter. “When I'm suffering, I want you to stay by my side. Will you, Flos?”
The knight couldn't bear to deny her anything. That is, until the night the demon possessed the woman he loved. The pure saintess's eyes no longer held compassion, only naked desire and a thirst for blood.
“Do you want to save her?” the demon shrieked with laughter. “Then submit to me.”
High atop the altar, the saintess sat watching with a smile as the knight offered his chastity to the demon for her sake.
Sinister, ghostly saintess x resilient, reassuring knight (a knight, and also a white knight)

Coming soon: a sweet story featuring a nonhuman love interest, After I Moved in with a Monster
Zhang Jiaojiao came down with a strange illness as a child: she suffered from vivid, persistent hallucinations that no treatment could cure.
For instance, she spent all six years of elementary school escaping a zombie apocalypse. In middle school, she lived through a financial crisis and made money by picking through trash every day. By the time she finally made it to college, her three roommates would stand on their heads and talk to her, so Zhang Jiaojiao had no choice but to move out of the dorm.
The good news was that her hallucinations seemed to be getting milder.
The bad news was that she started having bizarre hallucinations about her new roommate too.
For example, one night, Zhang Jiaojiao was watching a show in bed when she happened to see her roommate drag a corpse in from outside, then stare at her with a gloomy expression.
The hallucinations were back. Zhang Jiaojiao laughed and said, “You're pretty strong!”
Later, she saw her roommate dismembering the corpse in the kitchen and putting the body parts in the fridge.
Zhang Jiaojiao offered a suggestion: “Are you putting the feet in the fridge too? Isn't that unsanitary?”
Every time she said something, her roommate would scrutinize her with a chilling, inscrutable gaze. Zhang Jiaojiao knew her roommate must think there was something wrong with her brain. She was used to that look by now. Ha ha!
Then one day, Zhang Jiaojiao got a call from the hospital. “Miss Zhang, your hallucinations actually cleared up six months ago. Didn't you know?”
Zhang Jiaojiao froze, the blood in her veins gradually turning to ice as she stared blankly at the husband-like figure in the kitchen, wearing an apron and cooking.
In the tranquil glow of orange and green lights,
her roommate turned around, a gentle smile on his handsome face. “Jiaojiao, dinner's ready.”

She thought things would stay that way, but her husband Su Hao clearly didn't feel the same.
-
Seven years into their marriage, Su Hao inevitably developed anxiety about his appearance...
He noticed that his wife had been coming home less often lately and was less responsive in bed. She had even stopped wanting the pacifier she loved most.
He knew he wasn't young anymore. Fine lines had appeared at the corners of his eyes, and perhaps his figure was starting to change too...
But he never imagined his marriage would take such a sudden turn for the worse.
Late one night, he heard Jiang Xia get up and take a phone call on the balcony. Her voice was as tender as he hadn't heard it in a long time. “Be good. I know he's boring and not young anymore. I'll take care of it as soon as I can.”
Wide awake, Su Hao buried his face in the blankets and gritted his teeth, holding back his tears.
