Keep Yanking My Neck Fur and I'll Breathe Fire

I am the most beloved young lord of the Phoenix Clan. For five hundred years, I have had everything I could wish for.

But they actually arranged a marriage for me without even asking for my consent. That made me very unhappy.

Sure, my fiance is the last ancient god in the world, with an impressive reputation, status, and face. But no matter how you look at it, he's an old bull, and there's no way I, a tender young blade of grass, should end up in his grasp.

For the sake of my future happiness, I ran away from the wedding and descended to the mortal realm.

In the mortal world, I met a pale-faced scholar. He had rosy lips, white teeth, a great butt, a slim waist, and long legs. He was very much to my liking. The only problem was his tendency to attract nasty spirits, which drove me up the wall. Then one day, I couldn't hold back and opened my mouth, setting a mountain demon ablaze until it turned to ash. The scholar's look at me instantly changed.

I pointed at my mouth, which had opened and wouldn't close, and kept spewing fire. Then I rolled around on the ground to show him that even after rolling around, I was still breathing fire.

Without changing expression, he grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and covered my mouth, making me burp smoke. Through the curling haze, his face seemed to glow with a Buddha's radiance. If the smoke hadn't been so choking, I think I could have gazed at him for ten thousand years.

Unfortunately, the pale-faced scholar had a terrible way of speaking.

He said, "Wild chicken, go to bed."

He said, "Wild chicken, go face the wall."

He said, "Wild chicken, go eat."

That's right. In his eyes, I was nothing but a fire-breathing wild chicken.

I looked at my body, which had grown rounder and rounder, and sighed affectedly. Fine. It was my fault for coveting his butt.

Until...

My pale-faced scholar died. Heartbroken, I returned to the Sumeru Wutong Mirror and saw the fiance I had never met. He had the exact same face as the scholar I loved, and I couldn't help breathing fire again.
