Coming in December
[Dull beauty bottom × brooding, possessive big-dog top]
Lin Wanqiu, a prince of Lanling, had been taught how to be a good wife since childhood, all so he could fulfill his betrothal to the crown prince of Dayi.
He had thought he would marry the noble and virtuous crown prince as planned. But then the crown prince suddenly disappeared, and the throne ended up going to the son of a low-ranking, unloved maid.
The whole court was in an uproar. Only Lin Wanqiu was troubled for a different reason.
He’d heard the new emperor was a gloomy, ruthless man who had spent too long in the Cold Palace and was not to be crossed. Surely someone like that wouldn’t care for a dull person like him, who knew only how to serve a husband.
Before Lin Wanqiu left, a friend gave him a booklet full of tips on how to please people. If he followed them carefully, he might at least keep his life out of danger.
Lin Wanqiu nodded and tucked the booklet into his chest to keep it safe.
Xiao Li had been cast into the Cold Palace as a child because of the inauspicious circumstances of his birth. He’d lived worse than a servant. He became emperor through nothing but ruthless methods.
But when he heard that he would have to marry a prince from a subordinate kingdom after ascending the throne, he was disgusted.
How could a man be a wife?
On their wedding night, he strode into the bridal chamber, brushed aside the matchmaker’s ceremonial rod, and yanked off the red veil, determined to show his new spouse who was in charge.
But beneath the veil was a face of breathtaking beauty. Eyes clear as water gazed up at him, and a timid voice called out,
“Husband?”
Xiao Li clenched the red veil, thinking that this prince of Lanling was quite the seducer! He hardly seemed like a man!
Lin Wanqiu realized that no matter how dutiful he was, Xiao Li was never satisfied. He was cold outside the bedroom and knew only how to go at it roughly in bed, always making Lin Wanqiu pass out and miss the circus the next day.
The more he thought about it, the more obvious it seemed: Xiao Li loathed him.
Lin Wanqiu secretly grieved for a long time. After slipping Xiao Li a letter of divorce, he began quietly packing to leave.
But the moment he stepped out of the room, he fainted. When he woke, his wrist was shackled in iron.
Terrified, he tried to escape, but Xiao Li grabbed his thin ankle and dragged him back. A hot, ominous breath brushed his ear.
“Your Lanling has always wanted a child, haven’t you? I’ll give you one.”
