I Mistook the Female Lead and Ended Up Provoking the Villainous Demon King

Blurb 1:

Sang Huai wakes up to discover that she has landed inside a male-oriented xianxia novel called Nine Provinces, Azure Depths, where she's become a doomed supporting female character in love with the male lead.

The System assigns her a mission: protect the female lead and help her successfully form her Golden Core. If she does, she'll earn the chance to survive in this world.

Sang Huai initially thinks that having the original novel will make the mission easy. The awkward part is that the book is only half-finished, and the female lead is only ever called "Zhizhi." Her full name is never mentioned from beginning to end. The novel's biggest villain, the great demon lord Qu Qingzhi, also has "Zhi" in her name, so Sang Huai has to eliminate the possibilities one by one to find the real female lead.

Still, Sang Huai has read plenty of web novels before transmigrating, and female leads are always beautiful, strong, and tragic. She's pretty confident she can find the right one.

One day, Sang Huai sees a woman being beaten by sect disciples in the snow. The woman has a dignified bearing and eyes full of icy coldness, but her face is so beautiful that anyone who sees it once could never forget it.

Sang Huai slaps her thigh, certain her life is saved, then rushes over and gives the disciples a verbal thrashing, successfully rescuing the woman. And sure enough, the person she saves is called "Zhizhi."

From then on, whenever "Zhizhi" gets into trouble, Sang Huai is always the first to rush to her aid. She favors and looks after "Zhizhi" in every way.

Yet despite all this, the completion value of Sang Huai's mission doesn't change at all. This leaves both her and the System tearing their hair out.

Blurb 2:

The great demon lord Qu Qingzhi is severely wounded in a battle between immortals and demons. By day, she can barely maintain her human form. Every night, she turns into her true form: an orange cat. Forced to conceal her demonic aura with a spirit treasure, she hides in Yunan Sect and absorbs innate spiritual energy to recover. She has to grit her teeth and endure the bullying of the young disciples from the immortal sects, never expecting that one day someone would stand up for her.

From then on, the disciple from the immortal sect named Sang Huai stays by her side every day, gently calling her "Zhizhi." Gradually, Qu Qingzhi decides Sang Huai isn't bad at all. She might even make a suitable partner in the future.

Until one night, she turns into an orange cat and, as usual, goes to Sang Huai to have her fur stroked. She hears Sang Huai rambling beside her: "Kitty, I think I'm doomed. I was wondering why my mission value wasn't changing. I think I got the wrong person. Zhizhi is supposed to be Ye Mengzhi!"

Qu Qingzhi gives a cold laugh. After letting her stroke her fur so many times, does Sang Huai really think she can run away just because she got the wrong person?
