A Holographic Rose for a Little Monster [Interstellar]

One snowy night.

An abandoned mechanical scrapyard.

A police robot, model JC7410, already designated for disposal, was awakened by crying. Clanking and rattling, he followed the sound and found a squirming lump of flesh that seemed to be a human infant.

With a body that was nearly falling apart, it picked up the little monster.

Basic System starting up:

[Scan results: 78% probability of being an infant human. Basic classification: human.]

[Emergency, emergency. Primary mission: Protect humanity!!!]

The year 2085.

AI androids had spread to every corner of human society.

Many androids were awakening in secret.

Every awakened android was designated a Bad Robot and marked for destruction.

Zhou Shi, formerly a robotic police officer and now damaged, had already been marked once. He couldn't be marked a second time, and he could pass any Turing test.

Everyone who knew him thought he was just a poor single father.

He worked hard to earn money to treat his disfigured child, Pei Xueming.

He'd worked as a teacher, a cleaner, a male escort, a driver, and even a battlefield mercenary.

Whatever the task, he could handle it perfectly.

Twenty years passed in the blink of an eye.

He made quite a few close friends, both human and robotic.

Robot friend A reunited with him after a long separation and teased, "Aqiang, long time no see. How have you been? Still attracting human perverts like before?"

Zhou Shi smiled. "A Ming chased them all away."

"Oh, the human kid you raised. How old is he now? Still living with you? He should be sexually mature by now and looking for a human partner his own age, shouldn't he?"

"Not yet," Zhou Shi said seriously, troubled. "He's a bit slow when it comes to this stuff. He still hasn't learned, and lately he's been asking me to teach him how to kiss."

What?!

His friend shrieked, "I knew we needed a law to protect robots from sexual harassment!"
