The Bedchamber Maid

Chapter comments are now open.

Chu Ge was the dowry maid of the First Madam of the Duan family. The eldest young master, Duan Jingshan, had always harbored feelings for her.

But after the master got drunk one day, the First Madam, hoping to secure his favor, sent Chu Ge to his bed. She became the master's concubine-in-waiting.

The eldest young master wanted to save her from her misery, but was forced to marry and have children. Their fates diverged.

Later, when her country fell and her family was destroyed, she fled with the youngest young lady of the Duan family, beginning a struggle for survival amid the chaos of war.

The young man she had once saved devoted himself to caring for her. The eldest young master, now with a family of his own, could not forget her. Even the army's deputy general, who seemed refined and courteous, wanted to make her his own.

What kind of life did she truly want?

Perhaps she would need a lifetime to figure that out.

A few things to know, and content warnings:

1. There are no quotation marks around dialogue in this story, which may make it a little tiring to read. Personally, though, I don't think the pacing is too slow. If you find it tiring...

2. The heroine really is taken by the master against her will. If that's a dealbreaker, please don't read. Everyone has it rough. Feudal society ruins lives.

3. The heroine is as kind as I can make her, while the male lead is rather dark.

4. This is not a strong female lead story. It's not satisfying at all, and may even feel frustrating.
