The brilliantly calculating, deeply scheming traitor [Helian Xiyue] vs the peerlessly beautiful princess of a fallen kingdom [Su Yan]
Princess Changyin, Su Yan, had been in love with Helian Xiyue, the Left Chancellor's daughter, for over ten years. Xiyue was graceful and radiant, renowned throughout Chang'an for her talent, and as cool as frost, untouched by worldly dust.
Whenever a palace banquet ended, Su Yan would try to keep her there for a few more words, but Xiyue would only say:
"Princess, please stay."
Then Su Yan would be left alone, gazing after her retreating figure.
One day, the kingdom fell. Loyal ministers turned traitor, and Great Yan was defeated. Su Yan and the imperial family of Great Yan became prisoners.
As she was being escorted to prison, she heard a familiar voice:
"Princess, please stay."
Su Yan hadn't even had time to wipe away her tears before she looked up and saw Helian Xiyue, once untouched by worldly concerns, dressed in armor and seated atop a tall horse. The enemy soldiers around her all bowed their heads respectfully.
She held out a hand to Su Yan. For the first time, Su Yan turned away from it, her eyes red with hatred.
"Traitor!"
Only later did Su Yan learn that Helian Xiyue was no Left Chancellor's daughter. She was a hostage sent from the northern desert kingdom to Great Yan twenty years ago, and had now become the empress of both the northern desert and Great Yan.
The new emperor ascended the throne and granted a general amnesty. Even the imperial family of Great Yan was pardoned. In an unprecedented gesture, the former emperor was given the title of Prince of Yan and a residence. Though he would be watched, it was still the best treatment a ruler of a fallen kingdom could hope for. Su Yan's father had never cared for governing in the first place, and now he was so busy feasting and enjoying himself that he forgot all about the former glory of his throne.
Seeing how things had been settled, Su Yan breathed a sigh of relief. Still, every now and then, she would gaze at the bright moon in the sky, lost in thought.
At first, Su Yan thought that if that traitor Helian Xiyue dared show her face, she'd curse her out until she was drenched in abuse.
Later, watching the people live in peace and prosperity under the new emperor's rule and praise her one after another, Su Yan had to admit that Helian Xiyue was a better ruler than her father.
Later still, Su Yan heard that the new emperor was critically ill and near death.
Without stopping to think, Su Yan slipped into the palace through a tunnel Helian Xiyue had once designed to help her sneak out and have fun. The moment she climbed out, she crashed straight into someone's arms.
Su Yan: ...That was a miscalculation.
The traitor caught the rabbit that had come right to her, and held her close. "I'll share half the realm with you. Do you want it?"
"Of course I do! Why wouldn't I?"
A few notes before reading:

2. The story takes place in a completely fictional world, with no historical counterparts.
3. The timeline begins early, and the first part focuses on peaceful, unspoken love.
4. Send us a heart!
Theme: Peace and prosperity, with a world at peace, are the ultimate hope.
