The Fiery Husband and His Good-for-Nothing Man

A sharp-tongued, stick-thin husband and his broad-shouldered, timid man.

After years of famine, Zhang Xiaoxi of Magu Village was sold by his heartless father to Wang Dashu of Xipogou, in exchange for ten jin of millet, to become his husband.

Wang Dashu was broad-shouldered and strong, and looked tall and imposing.

But everyone for miles around knew he was such a coward that you couldn't get a word out of him even if you hit him with three sticks. He was built like a mountain, but people kept borrowing bits of the courtyard wall until there was hardly any left, and he never even said a peep.

Zhang Xiaoxi was so frustrated with him that he wiped away tears and wondered how he'd ended up marrying such a man.

But later, when bandits caused havoc, this same utterly spineless man killed for him, led him north through the famine and hardship, and helped him find a stable life.

[Reading Notes]

1. The lives of ordinary people amid the turmoil of a chaotic era.

2. Like the protagonist's name, this story is very down-to-earth and rustic.
