[The Untamed | Cheng Ning] Beyond the World

By the time Lan Xichen emerged from seclusion, the turmoil in the world had already settled. Even the many horrifying rumors about Jin Guangyao had faded from people's conversations.

After coming out of seclusion, Lan Xichen found it surprisingly difficult to rejoin the world. For a time, he seriously considered resigning as clan leader and roaming freely through the world, escaping the undercurrents and conflicts that would inevitably continue to plague it.

His younger brother, Lan Wangji, and his partner, Wei Wuxian, had spent several years traveling the world. When they caught Lan Xichen up on recent events in the cultivation world, they told him that after the battle at Guanyin Temple, the Jin Clan had steadily declined, while the other cultivation clans had all rebuilt themselves to some extent. Although young disciples continued to join the cultivation sects, there were now more and more independent cultivators in the world. They claimed they did not want to get caught up in conflicts between the clans, and were content to live quiet lives of cultivation.

Lan Xichen chuckled at this, recalling the independent cultivators Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan. The two had devoted themselves to fighting evil and helping the weak, hoping to retreat from the mortal world, yet in the end they had never escaped the jianghu.

Lan Wangji said nothing, but Wei Wuxian laughed out loud twice.

Elder brother, I'm afraid no one can escape the jianghu.

Hearing Wei Wuxian laugh like that, Lan Xichen found himself giving up on the idea of resigning.
