Wen Wan, an utterly ordinary college student.
She's currently helping her parents look after her younger brother, Wen Qingqing, going back and forth between home and school.
Until one day.
The ice caps melted, and an ancient virus swept across the globe.
People's bodies mutated. Some awakened supernatural abilities, while others became mindless walking corpses.
Wen Wan was a third kind of person, otherwise known as an ordinary person.
The global evolution of living things simply left her out.
That was the bad news.
The good news was that her younger brother had awakened an S-rank ability.
The bad news was that he had just turned six. He'd fuss if he didn't have toys and cry if he couldn't find his sister.
The good news was that, besides her younger brother, Wen Wan had another S-rank ability user by her side.
The bad news was that it was the crucian carp she'd bought the day before the disaster hit, planning to take it home and make soup with...
After awakening its ability, the crucian carp successfully turned its body into a human form. It had a nearly perfect physique, eight-pack abs, and smooth, defined lines. Unlike a human, its body was light gray, like some kind of beautiful mineral.
But only its body had turned human.
Its head was still a fish head.
That's right, not a mermaid, but a fish-man.
The fish-man's intelligence was close to zero. It was extremely simple-minded, not much better than Wen Qingqing.
If Wen Wan scolded it, it would feel so wronged that it shed little pearls, one by one, each crystal clear.
Other people's apocalypse: killing zombies, fighting for territory, stockpiling supplies
Wen Wan's apocalypse: childcare, fish care
Other people: working hard for Blue Star's beautiful tomorrow
Wen Wan: keep looking after the kid, keep looking after the fish
She thought sadly:
Let's set a small goal. First, I'll get these two S-rank ability users the whole world is fighting over to learn how to take care of themselves!
An unconventional disaster story, entirely made up, focused on feel-good wish fulfillment
Truly nonhuman: the fish-man will never turn into a mermaid (sad)
