[Greek Mythology] What to Do When You End Up in the Wrong Pantheon

[=w= Upcoming novel: “I Heard My Dad Is a Super Villain.” If you're interested, click into the author's profile to check it out~]

You are closely connected to the night and are regarded as a symbol of terror.

You wield negative powers that affect the soul, and mortals do not love you.

You appear only in a handful of lines in ancient texts and legends, lingering at the margins.

That's right, you are Sariel.

The angel who governs the moon.

The Time-Space Administration's mission for you is to teach a prophet, then reclaim his soul at the last possible moment and patch any potential loopholes, doing what you can to safeguard the development of the entire pantheon.

However, something went slightly wrong while they were locating you.

You were mistakenly sent to the neighboring pantheon, one that left behind countless legends and anecdotes, but whose relationships are especially complicated.

The good news: the goddess who caught you is kind and magnanimous. She doesn't hold the Time-Space Administration's offense against you.

The bad news: she has no intention of sending you back.

Connected with darkness, avoided and loathed by mortals, yet impossible to escape.

The goddess firmly believes you are Thanatos, her child.

You are not the solitary, aloof moon. You are stern and merciless Death, fair to all.

*

After becoming Thanatos, you discover that your greatest challenge isn't having ended up in the wrong pantheon and needing to relearn divine relationships and change your perspective.

Nor is it defending your precarious chastity and avoiding a series of morally outrageous developments.

It's that...

You discover that, after all, you like the moon more than Death.

A certain moon deity, coaxing you patiently: Just help me with one tiny, tiny favor, and I'll hand my divine office over to you.

You are sweet-talked into joining their enterprise, only to realize that by “a small favor,” they mean overthrowing Zeus's rule.

Once you obtain the divine power of the King of the Gods, naturally, you won't need the moon's divine power anymore.

Something seems off.

But somehow it also makes a surprising amount of sense.

Upcoming novel: “I Heard My Dad Is a Super Villain”

Chou Bai transmigrates with a System.

Still confused and not yet sure what's going on, he finds the spaceship he's aboard hijacked and forced to stop.

The group behind the hijacking is supposedly a vicious underground organization, guilty of countless crimes.

Its leader, Mr. Bai, is a notorious outlaw whose combined bounty could buy several star systems.

Chou Bai is taken alone to meet Mr. Bai.

And there he discovers...

Mr. Bai looks exactly like his father, Chou Lang.

Chou Bai suspects he really is dreaming.

Dreaming Chou Bai is lucky enough to find himself with a father who has also transmigrated.

And several days later, he gets kidnapped again.

This time, the kidnappers are insectoid spies who infiltrated his school.

The silver-haired, silver-eyed insectoid looks unhurried and gentle.

The other insectoids respectfully call him “Your Majesty.”

But the problem is, the insectoid government's chief executive also looks exactly like Chou Lang.

The chief executive claims that he is Chou Lang.

Chou Bai: QAO...?

The chief executive plans to confront Mr. Bai face-to-face.

But before Mr. Bai can arrive, an assassin who came to kill the chief executive takes Chou Bai and escapes the insectoid homeworld.

Chou Bai accidentally catches a glimpse of the assassin's true face.

Well, sure enough, beneath the assassin's hood is another familiar face.

His one dad has split into three, and Chou Bai is stunned.

The protagonist-development System, back online after recharging, is stunned too.

The System issues a string of warnings, insisting its Host understand how serious the situation is and stay away from the supervillain!

Chou Bai, meekly: But that's my dad... Did you get it wrong?

System: Even so, the other two villains won't let you go. Listen to me, run while they haven't decided who's won.

Chou Bai: I mean, they're all my dads.

System: .

1. A little story about a boy just over ten. My take on interstellar fiction, a pampered child raised by everyone. His dad has split into pieces, and those pieces are staying split. They won't turn back into one person.

2. The kid is a bit of a dad fanatic, frail, but an S-rank in both strength and speed.

3. The pairing is a mystery: childhood friend plus sudden newcomer. Romance only begins when they're adults.

[Reader's Guide and Warnings]

1. The main story is in third person. Little Thanatos is quiet and slow to catch on, delicate but able to fight, somewhere between chaotic good and chaotic neutral, and adored by everyone. Besides the golden finger he originally got as an angel, he has a useless support System that can only act cute. There's a slight “everyone is attracted to him” element.

2. Pure romance. The early story focuses on life in the underworld, and the later story follows a career (?). Heroes show up in abundance. The pairing is Artemis. The goddess is gender-swapped: she's a cross-dressing top, both wild and beautiful. The two original characters have nothing in common; their only connection is that the author made it up.

3. The setting is based on The Iliad, The Library (or The Bibliotheca, which may be more familiar), and Theogony, with little from Theogony. It also draws on various other sources and Orphism, and includes plenty of Romans (if Artemis is a moon goddess and Apollo a sun god, why can't they be Roman gods too?). But I'll still insult the Romans. There are huge amounts of distortion (some of it perhaps supported by reliable sources) and original worldbuilding. My references are eclectic and my approach is very freewheeling, with some vague handling of ages and generations. Everything serves the plot and my imagination. Author's notes will usually explain things.

4. My tastes are strange. I couldn't find the food I liked, so I'm making some myself. I don't need writing advice, and you don't need to provide background information. If you do, please provide reliable sources that can actually be referenced. At the very least, don't use Baidu Baike, internet opinions that are vague and lack solid sources, or fanon to dictate what I should do.

Making stuff up because there's nothing to read is tiring enough. I don't want to be responsible for debunking anyone else's fabrications besides my own (.

5. There's not much Olympus content, and this may not have what you're looking for. The setting and plot may not be to your taste, so I recommend buying one chapter at a time to cut your losses and find something else to read if needed.

If it's not to your taste, please don't force yourself to read it. The author is sensitive and hates trouble. If you force yourself to read and then complain, your comment will be deleted.

6. Last but just as important, the author has a terrible sense of language and is barely literate. The entire novel is written by a cat. Thank you for putting up with the kitty!

Theme: The world is brilliant and free. Become yourself.
