I Have to Crawl to See You

[Main story in third person]

I died in the first year the alien species descended... All right, no exaggerating. To be precise, I died on the very first day they arrived.

Now I'll be eighteen forever. How exciting :)

Then, in the tenth year, I clawed the dirt off my head and poked it out.

The first thing I saw was a somewhat gloomy sky and neatly trimmed trees.

Did they really hear my last words before I died? This graveyard looks so expensive!

I thought, a little moved, then looked around

The second thing I saw was a group of mad scientists, completely covered up as if they'd just come from some strange base, pointing things that looked like guns at me...

Uh... Sure, coming back to life is worth studying, but...

Anyway, I tried to bury myself again.

Then, through a transparent face shield, I saw the face of my childhood friend. I could pick it out of a pile of ashes even if he'd been burned to ash himself. (Actually, I couldn't. I just say that to make him happy.)

And I saw the expression on his face: three parts confusion, three parts nostalgia, three parts pain, and ninety-one parts coldness. (That was after I embellished it with my imagination.)

You little punk! I haven't even been alive for two minutes, and you're already trying to kill me? Is this how you treat your childhood friend?!

I flew into a rage!

I burst out of my coffin!

I stared, stunned, as body parts fell out of me with little plops.

"Help, aaaaaah!!"

I howled and clutched the holes in my body as I sprinted toward my childhood friend.

After a long bout of explanations and screaming that made no sense, followed by a frantic, chaotic mess,

my childhood friend finally held me tightly in his arms,

just like all those hugs over the past decade or so, as if we had never been apart.

"Good buddy," I said, deeply moved and swearing solemnly to the heavens as I looked at his clearly more mature face, "I'll take care of you when you're old."

So why did somebody smack my butt out of nowhere in the end? (annoyed)
