The Comeback Plan for a Washed-Up Female Character

As a veteran employee of the 2D Time-Space Bureau, Kirino Mirai is chosen by the director for the bureau's major new project because she's had far too much "good luck": the Comeback Plan for Forgotten Female Characters!

There are many female characters in the 2D world who once shone brightly and were loved by countless people, only to later become overlooked background characters.

The Time-Space Bureau's new project is meant to help them regain their popularity and return to the center of their shows.

The first character card Kirino Mirai draws:

[Red Hair] [Anne's Room] [Loneliness] [Tsundere]

She gets the idea.

"I build up popularity by playing forgotten female characters, then return them to the center of their shows?"

Kirino Mirai points at the character card she'll be playing, [Lucy Maud Montgomery], and asks in genuine confusion, "Was she ever in the spotlight?"

The System replies seriously, "She was the final boss at the end of Season One of the Literary Figures anime. Isn't that the center of the show?"

Well, that's convincing enough.

"I'm supposed to play a genuine member of the Black Organization in a detective anime, without going out of character, and raise a forgotten female character's popularity..."

Kirino Mirai asks again, "Are you serious?"

They want her to boost the popularity of a forgotten female character while playing a member of the Black Organization and staying in character.

They're obviously making things difficult for her.

The System keeps making things up: "The character card has a history of reforming and joining the protagonist's side in the Literary Figures anime. If a character from the good guys' side is willing to help her, then switching sides at the right moment fits her personality and won't trigger the out-of-character score."

She has every reason to suspect the System is pulling her leg.

But she's already accepted the task and drawn the card, so no matter how much of a trap it is, she can only grit her teeth and get on with it.

After entering the detective anime as [Lucy Maud Montgomery], Kirino Mirai's first call comes from her big brother Gin, telling her to deal with a phone call from an undercover agent.

At this point, the detective anime's story is set four years before the main plot begins.

Theme: Let the girls who once shone so brightly shine again.
